They are living a very public life. Would you want to do that too? Lots of things go to motive. Not moving, for them, is one to me. So, what he has to say about rigs is not relevant to me.
Yeah, ok. But have you seen some of those pics he’s posted? Damn, what an extended vacation!

To me it’s always been 2dr’s. I like how nimble and “handy” they are. Rear seat on mine was removed the day it came home, and will live in the basement until the Jeep leaves. #1 Son has a Gladiator and loves it but it is, to me, too big. To ME the 4dr just feels too much SUV (but that’s just me). A 2dr with the 2.0 and auto (or the V6 and a stick) fill the bill nicely.

No judging here… all depends on your personal situation/lifestyle. We are empty nesters and have other vehicles so I guess my JLR is just for fun. I can also tow it behind my little RV so we have travel flexibility. And it is really fun on road and off. Backseat removed day one. I think my only complaint is the smaller fuel tank.

Anyone living out of a vehicle that long should have moved. He's made a lifestyle compromise, and a Jeep footprint, for him, that must follow for that decision.

Don't mistakenly read that as a Jeep of another flavor is a compromise.
Where do you suggest that I move to? I have wheeled here.

While I love Moab and other parts of Utah, Arizona is great too. Just discovered how awesome the Baja Peninsula in Mexico is, but hey Tennessee and North Carolina and parts of Pennsylvania are cool wheeling too. It’s not that easy. Just say pick one spot. We off road on average 4 to 6 times a week. Well except for last week… We are 11 days in a row right now. We are taking Monday and Possibly Wednesday off this up coming week.

We did wheel 30 or so days straight in Moab last year and boondock camp 182 days with a total of 9 months on the road. We will probably move after my wife’s parents leave this world. And that’s why we are home for the holidays and haven’t moved. Occasionally my wife will fly home to see her parents. They are in decent health and in their early eighties.

We have owned truck camper, RV, and camper trailers. Thought about just building a barndominium in Moab, Maybe 4 car garage, and sleep ten then air b&b it when we are not there. We have choices, and we choose to explore, jeep and hike all over. We wear places out.

So while a good 2Dr does not work for us, and we have had them and wheeled with many, I stand by it is a niche market and the sales support it.

We almost bought a 2nd Jeep, a Jk 2dr. Then decided to go to the different side of the vehicle spectrum.
When we’re are home we pull this out of storage for fun.

If you already own a Jeep, I can guarantee that this is more fun than a second Jeep. And it has a v8 that I can avg 26 mpg for normal driving and 30+ mpg when hyw driving. Ut is a great touring car when the Jeep stays home.

Well kind of, we pretty much only share Jeeping and hiking stuff. There is plenty we do not share.

Just know that I am not making or trying to make money off the things I share. While I could and have offers, that is not what I am about. To think, that I don’t know any relevant information about any rigs, is just silly. I have wheeled with thousands with just about every type of Jeep. Just yesterday, I wheeled with a bunch of TJ, LJ, JL, JLU, JLUR and a gladiator. Ones from stock to long arms. I have wheeled with CJ, XJ, Trail Hawk Cherokee, and just about every flavor of lifted Jeep models. Even Renegades.

If you’re under the impression that I don’t like 2dr Jeeps, you would be wrong. I do like them, just not enough to have them sit in storage while we travel.

This is my favorite JLR. Little Bit.

21 Rubicon two door. 2.0 Turbo.
So basically a 2dr is great for going to the mall? Easy to park and maneuver in tight spots. It is the same width as the gladiator and the JLUR, it is just shorter, so like maybe three turns or so on the trail it is better.

Definitely buy the 2dr or lease it so that after you find out why less than 10% of wranglers that are sold are 2dr model you can transition back easily.

To me the 2dr is a niche vehicle market. It is not something you want to drive everyday, still cool mind you, and is only beneficial about 5% of the time on the trail. For every benefit it has, you have to compromise on 90% of the other areas.
and did i mention the two door just looks cooler :bandit:

Is it better for day to day? Nope. But some of us are just weird haha.

1. The 2 door, has the look of the real Jeep.
2. Cost less money up front.
3. More power, less weight.
4. Better braking, less weight.
5. Better fuel economy, less weight.
6. Better turning radius.
7. Better maneuverability.
8. The engine cooling temp, will run cooler, because of less weight.
9. Less wear on the drivetrain, because of less weight.

I think we can all agree that everyone’s situation is different and in soliciting opinions, one must know this to be true when taking any advice. Some have kids, some are retired, some have the resources to have a toy in storage, some trying to just balance fun and reality. For the OP… lots of good comments but you need to weigh convenience, fun, practicality, etc.

No right answer but the good news whatever decision the OP makes make is changeable.

i have a 2 door sport and its my only jeep. its my daily everyday driver and road tripper. i love my jl due to being small, light, and easy to get around town, etc. the 3.6 with the 8 spd auto is the best combo. i've taken the jl on several long trips 1500 mile round trips. the ride is comfortable and the mpg is awesome. the space in the jl is more than enough for me. i went with the sport model with only 4 options which were 8 spd auto, a/c. xm, and hard top. i wanted a simple setup without all the bells and whistles. currently i've swapped out the front and rear bumpers, added a winch and aux lights, and some other mods. for now i'm wearing the oem tires, but will be upgrading to 33s when the time comes. i've had my jl since may of 2019 and it only has 24k miles on the clock. i have no regrets with the jl and i'm keeping it for the long haul.

i am looking to pick up another jl in the near future as a 2nd jeep and i would consider picking up another 2 door jl. i may look at a 4 door jlu. the gladiator is also a possibility. i do wish that jeep builds a 2 door gladiator like the j6 concept or even the j12. either way, i'll stick with a sport model with the same 4 options that i have in my current jl. the only other option i would add would be the max tow package for the gladiator solely for the d44 front and rear axles.

I'd go test drive all configs and see what works for you. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Only you can determine what is right when you drive them.

Posting here will give you mostly, "Only get a 2dr".

I love when someone posts something like this then disappears.

Just get the 2-door its what you really want and make it work.

I daily drove a two-door TJ. It was great until I had to put car seats in it.

I daily drive a two-door JLR. It is perfect.

My wife and I are both retired and in our early 70s. We have had a couple of TJs, a JKUS on 33s, a JKUR on 35s, a JTR on 37s, and now for not quite a year a pretty much stock JLR with the 2.0 and 8 speed transmission. My wife did not like getting up into the JTR even though it had the RSE power steps and she did not like riding in it. We drove it on long trips and at 75 to 80 mph the gas mileage was pretty bad. It was (and still is) an ultra sharp looking vehicle and I got lots of drooling and complements. We now love our 2door. We are probably done with big Jeeps and with the 2.0 and maneuverability it feels like a Jeep sports car plus the mpg Is a very pleasant surprise. Also, IMHO, the 2door, especially the 2 door Rubicon, is the only Jeep that does not need a lift to make it look good. So far we have only driven it on one long trip but the ride is fine. In fact, my wife likes it better than the JTR. i have taken the back seat out and added a DIY rack for our golf clubs and I have plenty of cargo capacity. We have not yet taken it off road, but looking forward to doing that on a trip to Colorado in a few months.
