Dear Jeepers,

Kindly advice! I have an issue with rear wheels every time I pass over any small bumps or even speed bumps with low/fast speed I feel the full impact which is not tolerable after a while .

Fyi my car build is jeep Jl Rubicon 2D 315/70/17 tires, Kings shocks with steering stabilizer, EVO enforcer 2.5” lift kit, all 8 adj control arms with front and rear track bars from metal cloak.

the ride is very smooth with this build but the only issue I have is the rear and the impacts which is not tolerable after a while ! Any suggestions?

Long arms are the only way to 100% fix it.

As you lift with the factory arm lengths you change the geometry and the result is a harsher ride. You can get front relocation brackets to help offset this, but nothing for the rear.

On a JL 2 door it's worse as the overall length is less so the ratio of arm angle to chassis length means you will feel more of it.

With longer arms you get angle back to stock, or even better.

But this is not a trivial modification to do.
I already installed 8 adj control arms and the ride is almost perfect but the issue with impact from rear is there

I have the Mopar lift with Fox shocks on my Rubicon 2 door and no issues. The rear should be smoother than the front since the rear tire moves up and rearward over bumps. I spent a lot of time valving shocks when racing off-road. There could be a valving issue with the Kings making them harsh.

Agree with Thomas.

I have MetalCloak's RockSport shocks and the ride is as comfortable as stock, if not more so. I'm hitting potholes and speed bumps with no unsettling or jarring impacts. I would look to the shock valving well before going to long arms on a 2.5" lift. My guess is that you have King shocks setup for the 4 door and that's why you are getting a harsh ride.

Do your rear shocks have the adjustments? The website says that they do. If so, you can simply turn them to a softer setting.

Compression Adjuster Option

  • Wide range compression adjustable
  • Clearly marked billet adjuster knob offers 20 positive clicks of finely tuned adjustment

Ok I got it now I thought the issue is my coil spring from evo it says specifically made for 4D and for having heavy equipments such as (steel bumpers, wench.. etc) I bought the king shocks from my friend who have 4 door after he upgrade to coilover. I have no idea that each body type have different valve setting!! . I will definitely go to king’s dealer.
Thanks a ton for this info guys.

Yeah, your 2 door is much lighter so you will want to get a system designed for it.

I'd highly recommend the MetalCloak 2.5" lift as I'm really enjoying it's ride. Though I would LOVE to have the adjustable remote reservoir shocks to adjust performance on road as well as off.

Good luck to you!

U mean their Dual coil springs? I heard the best is Rock Crawler now.

Yes. Best is subjective. Best at what? If you are looking for comfort and handling speedbumps like they aren't there, then I like the results I've gotten from MetalCloak. I can't compare to Rock Crawler as I haven't driven with them.

Front - https://metalcloak.com/jl-wrangler-coils-2-door-2-5-true-dual-rate-coils-front.html
Rear - https://metalcloak.com/jl-wrangler-coils-2-door-2-5-true-dual-rate-coils-rear.html

Either way, I think you will find the ride much better if you get a system designed for your 2 door instead of those for the 4 door. :like:

Realize this is an old thread, but what the heck. I have four door JL rubicon, also ran the 2.5 Evo lift (full kit, all arms etc) with the king shocks. I was constantly in the bumps on the 2.5 coils. Wondered too if the king shocks were almost at full compression on the 2.5 lift, as the shocks are rated 2.5 inches to 5 inches of lift on one end, and the other end rated for 3 to 5 inches (don’t recall which was front and which was rear). I might be completely wrong here in my understanding of shocks, but I wondered if running the minimum coil means that the shocks have little room to give for more compression. Went to the Evo 3.5 coils, and the difference (seat of the pants scientific) is night and day.

Edited to add...the Evo 2.5 coils are not like many other lifts where the 2.5 actually nets you 3 or more. The Evo 2.5 lift leaves you noticeably shorter, for example, than the Mopar 2” lift. For running 37s, and if you’re looking at the Evo kit...don’t go shorter than 3.5” if you’re going offroad at all.
