Hey team
Looking at a killer deal on Bridgestone ats 2557017

What would be the main difference other than a hair shorter? Have stock sports right now
2657517

Any shots or comparisons please?

I have reviewed to toyota site that has them overlayed just looks a hair smaller than the Rubicon stock.

Is over an inch and an half shorter "a hair" to you?

I'd think you'd want to use what you currently have as the baseline. Note that if you change diameter you'll most likely want to also recalibrate the computer's settings. That (a device or trip to a relationship) needs to be part of your budget.

I wouldn't go down in tire size personally, but we wheel our Jeeps. If it's pavement only it won't hurt anything and an AT will look better than the stock car tires on a sport even if it is smaller in my opinion.

Firestone tires 255/75/17 MT that comes with my Willys are one of the worst tires I have. I replace them with Toyo R/T 285/70/17 and was a great decision.

The only thing that tire has in common with what the OP is looking at is width. It's 1.5" taller. It's an MT vs an AT. Apples and oranges.

You're measuring width, not height. 255 is 30mm narrower than 285. 255 and 285 have nothing to do with the height (until you include an aspect ratio and wheel size).

In Europe, the Rubicons are delivered with 255/75-17 BF Goodrich KM2, A horror and dangerous and noisy, they slide on wet ground and dig into the snow like a shovel. I put on Yokohama Geolandar of the same size and I have a new Wrangler , quiet !

Horrendous in wet conditions. There’s no other way to describe this tires.

Im having the same dilemma i have a 2019 moab. No lift and have the 255 mud terrain tires. Looking to switch to an all terrain wildpeak. But sizes are limited in the 255 range. If i jump to a 285 with stock suspension do you think there will be rubbing?

The 285 is not a problem if you do not do axle crossings (ditches) otherwise it risks touching on difficult terrain.

You need to include the entire size listing when comparing tires. The 255 and 285 numbers by themselves are only the width. Need to at least verify the aspect ratio (the next number, usually something like 70, 75, 80, etc...). For example a 255/85R17 is taller but skinnier than a 285/70R17.
