Only starting in 2024 and even then only for the Rubicon trims.

Now that is interesting, my window sticker says “3rd Generation Heavy–Duty Dana® 44 Rear Axle” but I didn’t know that they made both a floating and non floating version. Thanks for posting, I will take my misinformation elsewhere.

Hey all,

I own the pictured 2024 2-Door Sport Wrangler but I have had a 4xE rental all week. While I love the idea of the 4XE PHEV, the price premium is tough to justify. Unless you plug it in, the battery is always doing nothing but weighing you down. The electric range is so short you need either a very short commute or plug access at home and work. And then the efficiency is so low that you’re probably paying something close to gas prices, especially if you’re not charging at home. I do love the idea of being able to run a Wrangler as a zero emissions vehicle for all those practical trips but it’s way too easy to spend $60K+ on a 4XE Sport S.

If one of my main concerns is Gas mileage, Then a Wrangler would not be my first choice.

Both Panasonic & Samsung SDI have issued a flurry of press releases recently related to the development of much higher energy density EV cells, with expected scale-production dates between 2025 and 2027.

It’s chemistry, not sorcery.
There are physical limits to chemistry. The newer 4680 cells increase range by only about 10 or 15%.

Won’t really address every single point here as my experience is contrary to how you see the 4xe working in your situation.

But I wanted to say that any kind of hybrid (plug in or not) is going to about double your gas mileage in non highway environments. That’s entirely due to regenerative braking alone, the same amount of energy needed to get you going is the exact same amount of energy needed to stop. In a non regen braking vehicle you’re throwing away about half the energy simply to heat and brake wear. I think a non plugin option would have been an interesting offering, except that non plugin hybrids have a completely different architecture than PHEVs. 2 motor generator units, continuous transmissions, while the 4xe is basically just an electric motor sandwiched in the ZF 8 speed, and another one to replace the starter.

Not true at all, it adds 175 extra foot pounds of torque and 105 more horsepower. I drove a 3.6 and the 4XE and the 4XE has way more power. Worth it too me and the free 20 miles is icing (if it wasn't recalled of course)
