2024 Wrangler antenna in windshield...

Given the proclivity of windshields cracking and needing replaced in the Wrangler, wonder how this impacts cost if every time you need a windshield with an antenna built in to it?

Yep and I’m sure there will be posts about no supply or backorders once the first round of new windshields starts up with cracks.

but let’s consider this as well.

- With todays driver and owner of JL…
- How many folks utilize AM/FM radio?
- Personally I have a ‘20 Sahara which I purchased new and in 76k miles and counting, I’d say that I have listened to AM/FM less than 30 min.
- Of course many state they are replacing windshields. How many actually do?
- I’m on my original windshield. No cracks, no chips, it always is parked outside being exposed to the elements.

Just offering up the other side of the coin.

Most actually do. In NY, you won't pass annual state inspection if a crack in the windshield is within the driver's field of view.

Also, in NY most insurance policies offer full glass coverage where there is no cost for windshield replacements.

I don't pay extra for glass coverage. And, my rates are not excessive. I've been with the same company for years.

Some cars have had antennas in their windshield for almost 30 years. It's not a big deal to manufacture this way.

If you are referring to SiriusXM, it is not. SiriusXM has a separate antenna located on the roll bar.

The windshield antenna is for AM/FM/HD.

You can think whatever you'd like, but no, it is not included in my rates. Some insurance companies charge for glass coverage, some do not. Others will roll it into your rates, others do not. Mine does not.

That's why this is terrible.

If you don't use AM/FM you could easily delete the antenna and be done with it. Now replacement windshield prices go up forcing you to pay for an integrated antenna that you don't care about.

If you do use AM/FM, now a single tossed stone can also break your antenna which has never happened before.

This is a lose for everyone.

No, I’m not. It’s the DAB antenna for digital radio in the UK.

Some cars have had antennas in their windshield for almost 30 years. It's not a big deal to manufacture this way.

The wrangler doesnt have a 50+ degree windshield rake and suffers cracks every time a rock looks at it the wrong way.
