Help! I picked up my 22 Jl Unlimited and after 1 mile down the road, this happened. The Information Screen started blacking out. First time I took it back they flashed the computer took an hour or so. Didn't work. 2nd time they looked around again and thought they had it fixed, 3 days, didn't work. By this time I could begin to tell that it seemed temperature related, when the outside temp got to about 85, it started to happen again. 3rd time, they replaced the cluster, took 8 days. I'm not fully sure it totally worked, because it hasn't been over 85 degrees yet, but I did notice that the TPMS Screen is no longer there. I know how to find it, it's just not there missing. I can get my tire pressure through Uconnect. on my phone, but the screen isn't there on the cluster. So 4th time I took it back for the screen missing. 2 days, they said they can't fix it, don't know how. They are hoping the 4th quarter computer update will fix it. I asked for a buy back on the vehicle, and was denied. Thing is I really like my Jeep and would like it fixed, but If I have to hire a lawyer for Lemon Law I will. Just wondered if anyone has any idea what's going on?

First, make sure that all of your fuses and relays are pushed all of the way in. The box is located under the hood, between the battery and the firewall.

Next, make sure the main grounding cable from the battery/batteries to the frame is good and tight. Also make sure that all of the clamps are good and tight on the battery/batteries too.

Also, you might want to disconnect the batteries for about at least 8 hours to make sure that all of the systems reset. When you disconnect, turn the headlight switch to the on position, and leave it there, to draw any residual voltage from the system.

Any idea which fuse covers the information cluster or the tpms?

Found which fuse, but nothing there. Will try the battery disconnect next.

It might also be the ubiquitous auxiliary battery failing. There are thousands of posts on this.

After you rule out (1) looses fuses, (2) loose battery terminals, and (3) weak auxiliary battery, next thing to check is the canbus connectors sitting behind the glove compartment.

Good luck!

I can believe it would be the aux battery, it only has 2800 miles on it, but it's a Jeep. Already checked fuses, battery terminals looked good when I disconnected them. I'll. he check the connectors if the reset after the batteries are reconnected doesn't work. I'm guessing they replaced the cluster with a bad cluster, they found it pretty quick and I read a lot about people taking weeks to get one. I'll keep all informed

Battery issues are very prevalent in the last couple years and are being reported in many different makes and models, even on fairly new vehicles.

There are posts of bad auxiliary batteries on JLs as they drove off the dealer lot.

If your auxiliary battery is indeed defective, it is only a matter of time until it starts draining your main battery.

My bet is that dealer didn't do squat when they said they replaced the cluster, which wouldn't be uncommon Jeep dealer behavior.

Because the problem seems to be heat related, and because the TPMS screen is totally missing but available via UConnect, I suspect the computer that drives the display is defective. The displays themselves don't have the ability to omit particular functions, nor would that fault be caused by a bad connection. It's quite likely the computer needs to be replaced.

Thanks.... Jeep believes an update will fix it... your thoughts?

No, I highly doubt it. Software updates won't correct heat related issues. There is likely a defective IC, solder joint, or bad capacitor in the computer... I'd bet they are going to have to replace it.

Best of luck with it.

"an update will fix it" is their way of saying they don't know what to do and don't want to spend the time necessary to find out what the problem is

Can't fix / Don't know how.... That's Jeep techs for you :clap::mad:

Like most guys say, I also insist on removing the fuse box cover and make sure they are all pressed-in all the way.

Aldo also has a point regarding the auxiliary battery. Since the Jeep is new, maybe it hasn't had time to fully charge. If you have a bettery tender with AGM battery charging, you might wanna leave it plugged-in for a few days and see if that helps.

You are unlucky and lucky at the same time.... You learned early how competent the Jeep techs are. Consider that a warning to only go there for warranty work. Do your own oil changes, or you might be in for more surprises.

Nothing on the Canbus and I disconnected the connectors to the cu and put them back on, nothing there. So, it's been in the shop 4 times for this problem, which under Texas Law qualifies it for Lemon Law, but I really like my jeep so I want them to fix it. I guess I have 2 years to decide if I want to claim it. I'm going to take it into Yuma Jeep when I get in there to see if a different dealership handles it differently.
Unless anyone else has ideas that I can try.
