New JL Jeep owner here looking for some guidance. I bought a certified used Rubicon from a reputable dealer a couple of weeks ago and still do not have possession of the vehicle. I even have the title already but no vehicle. It was a lease turn in that they listed for sale before it had gone through inspection. I found it, drove it, loved it. When testing everything out, the service light came on for the lockers. With it being certified used, I was assured everything would be taken care of through the certification process when it went through the inspection and service. Agreed on a price based on what was needed and the work the dealership was going to do to get it ready, and made plans to come back the following week to pay and take the vehicle home. It was memorial weekend, so they were going to put it through service Tuesday and have it ready on Weds.
I got a call Wednesday that they needed parts to repair the lockers and they were back ordered, so I could still come down and close the deal (on the 31st so I’m sure they were wanting it in their May numbers), and the car would be ready by the following week (5th/6th). It’s now the 11th and as of yesterday they are still trying to diagnose the issue - it’s likely the wiring harness at this point since they’ve replaced fuses, sensors, and plugs (I think that’s what they said).
Anyway, the sales manager called me yesterday and I feel like he was feeding me a line but I don’t know enough about it to be sure. He told me they are actively working on it but it keeps throwing the same code. According to him, every time they hook it up to diagnostics, it’s 3-6 hours (I feel like this is line #1), there are 360+ computers in the jeep (feels like line #2), and they have 3 technicians working on this (line #3). All of that, plus some solid gaslighting telling me I’m not giving them any credit…I’m in a really crappy situation without a vehicle and no ETA on when it will be ready.
Bottom line, I feel like they should never have sold a vehicle that wasn’t ready to be sold. If it was just my deposit they had, I’ve had walked from the deal by now. Also, because my sales guy previously told me that the service manager told him “they have a very busy service department and there are people who have been waiting longer than her”, I feel like my Jeep isn’t being worked on at all.
Can anyone offer any advice on guidance on if any of what I’m being told is legit?
Thanks!

Locker sensors going bad is a completely legit thing. You can search it here. Oil seeps into the sensor and kills it. Let them replace the sensors. They have been back ordered. Before the sensors were available individually people were getting their entire axles replaced.

I don’t disagree on the sensors at all - in reasearching, it’s very common. I’m more asking about what I’m being told on why it’s taking so long. Is it common to take over a week to diagnose?

Request a loaner while you sign the deal. The sensors will come in and you will get your Jeep.

The dealership is 2+ hours away. Kind of tough to get there without a car. They offered me an enterprise rental, but the closest enterprise is almost an hour away.
My better half works in agriculture so this time of year, he has the truck and long hours. I’m being left in quite a bind.
Which is besides the point here - I’m asking about the legitimacy of what I’m being told. I don’t trust them at this point but maybe I’m wrong and they are doing everything they can.

Ouch, the distance is hard to deal with but I think I would appreciate the dealer fixing the prob before delivery rather than letting you take it and discover the trouble codes. As far as the issue itself, the locker sensors are a common problem for Rubis. Chevy Mitchell has a thread on here to prevent the sensors from going bad. Although you have to start with good sensors. I think I would try to work with the dealer, it seems they are trying to be honest.

Oh I’m grateful it’s being fixed….but as a certified used vehicle, that was part of the deal I agreed to. I’m not doing backflips over them just doing what was agreed upon in the deal. ? I’m the one who discovered the issue when I test drove it.
