Anyone had this happen with their JL's? I see a couple of mentions with the JK's of the lockers getting stuck, but I'm curious why this started without ever going into 4L (under 200 miles). I tried taking it off-road and actually using the lockers with the hopes that after disengaging, it would stop flickering...unfortunately no luck...

I'll have to get a video of it next time, but 9 times out of 10 it shows the normal unlocked lockers and connected sway bar. Occasionally, it'll quickly flash "Rear Locker Unlocked" at the same time that light flickers, but rarely...according to the book, it shouldn't allow it to lock in 2H regardless so I'm thinking it's just a sensor. The flickering has reduced since I actually put the lockers to work the other day so maybe just breaking it in:idea:

I just picked up my new JLU Rubicon today and Iā€™m having a similar issue. It says that the rear diff is locked all the time. When I hit the button to unlock, that image flashes and it will say unlocked. Two seconds later it shows that itā€™s locked again.

Yeah it's weird...According to the book it's both going too fast to allow it to be locked and isn't in 4L which also should prevent it from locking. Does it feel locked to you? Or does it feel like it's just a sensor?

Iā€™m not sure. When I start it up and the lights flash my Wrangler seems to buck a little as I reverse then slowly drive forward to make sure itā€™s not engaged. After it says itā€™s unlocked it drives fine. However, if I go the off road screen the display indicates the rear diff is locked again.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. I just picked up my 18 JLUR yesterday and found the same issue. Started the car and the rear locker light was flashing. Put it in drive and drove off, seemed no problem to me.
Wondering if you guys took it to the dealership or just kinda drove on it to break it in?

Hi Vin and rayxu,
Iā€™m sorry about the locker light flashing, I can see how that would be frustrating. I see that youā€™re currently communicating with others in the forum about it. if you choose to contact your dealers to have it checked out, you can also send JeepCares a private message with more details and we can offer our assistance to ensure your time at the dealership goes smoothly.

I ended up just driving on it and haven't brought it to the dealership because it wasn't consistent enough (didn't want to give the dealership money until I could replicate it regularly). I have about 6500 miles on it right now and the flickering stopped at about 1k miles. I noticed that it mostly only did it while cornering so for me, I think it was/is the front locker.

I just recently took it off road and ran the lockers as necessary that day. Unfortunately, the day after i took it off road, when I was on my way to work the flickering was back! I didn't beat on it, but definitely needed the lockers for some of the rocks I was wandering over...Again, after about a day, the flickering stopped. Now, whenever I take it off road I only use the rear lockers and haven't had the flickering pop on. I'm still driving it daily, but know there's some electrical issue going on with the front locker. Now I just need to figure out how to relay this to the dealership...

Yea, it's a pain when you take it to the dealership and can't recreate the problem. I saw in another post that the OP said he took it to the dealership and they found out that it was a bad actuator. His problem was with the rear axle, but might be similar to your problem? I'm going to take mine to the dealer soon and have them check both the actuator and sensor out. Hopefully, you get yours fixed soon man.

Thanks for the info that sounds like it could be the case - I'll mention that when I bring it in. Appreciate it man

I can easily recreate the problem since my locker lights (dashboard and switch in center console) constantly flash on and off. If I look at the Off Road screen it shows that the rear is locked....even when in 2H at 65 mph on the highway. Took it to the dealership. They said it was a "sensor" so they swapped it out. Didnt fix the problem so now they are working with corporate to figure out their next move.

Fun stuff!

Have you tried checking the fuses and making sure they are all seated properly? Might not be the case but it's simple and takes 5 minutes to just push on the fuses and make sure nothing is loose...

Sorry to reply to an old post. What ended up being the problem? I have the same issue currently.

Thanks

Tons of threads in this subject on this site. Most of the time itā€™s the locker position sensor inside the axle. If that is the case with you then the dealer would replace the whole axle for a $30-$50 sensor. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Zautomotive sells a $170 wire adapter that bypasses the sensor so the locker will work. They are the people who make the tazer JL mini if youā€™ve heard of that. The adapter is simple plug and play.
