2020 JLUS S Brake Lock Diff

New to the wrangler and have been reading a lot on this forum. I purposely put my Jeep in this one rear wheel in air position in 2wd to see if I could get out. The tire off the ground just spun. Never felt the wheel with traction try to pull me out in reverse with BLD. I also tired the Ebrake easily increasing pressure but nothing. Did I do something wrong for this test? 4wd was the only way out.

Getting ready for winter and want to know what I may need to do to get out of iffy situations.

Lol. Guess I didn’t read enough.

I found this thread and can confirm that BLD does NOT work in 2wd and some of the viewpoints are wrong. The traction control light comes on but the break is never applied to the wheel off the ground. Have this on video also.

Well, maybe I was wrong and part of the other thread is correct. I redid my test in 2wd and in both forward and reverse. In both cases with one wheel of the ground, the wrangler was able to move. The wheel off the ground never stopped turning but the Jeep did move.

I have lsd equipped on my jlu, it works well. I have used 4wd multiple times with no issues and 4wd low a couple of times and was impressed with how well it crawled up a rocky desert road. I have driven in snow a few times with minimal issues, got stuck once when stock and @Whiskeybiskit was right behind me to pull me back.

You're definitely on the right track though, test it out as much as you can till you're comfortable, better than when stuck without help!

Will mostly be daily driving in normal road conditions and in snow up here at the higher elevations at our cabin. Based on everything I’ve read and watched, I’m thinking the best setup will be something like a TrueTrac in rear and locker in front. Any thoughts on that setup.

You can get a lot of different input on this forum about what's best for snow/offroading. I think the most important thing is going to be tires, any lsd is going to help but driving characteristics and conditions vary a lot. The minimal snow driving I get to do out here in the west is not the same as NC. I'm surprised nobody else(with experience) has chimed it yet.

I appreciate your input so far. At our cabin in the upper elevations of TN, a big snow can hit quickly which is what I’m trying to prepare for. In 6 hours we got hit with the snow in this picture. My F150 4x4 with rear e-locker was stuck even with 600 lbs of sand in bed. Lucky we had my wife’s Subaru Ascent which cruised right through as if was nothing. Had to leave truck for a few weeks. Yeah tires sucked which was a big part of it

That's a good amount of snow about the same when I got stuck on wheeler pass out here near Las Vegas. I wish we got more snow, used to live in Colorado and before that the outer banks(ocracoke to be more specific)

We need more weather than just sunshine but I can't complain when I can drive with the doors off when it's nice out

I assume LSD/TrueTrac in rear would be fine, correct?

My old 1997 Cherokee with the NP241 AWD transfer case, along with TrueTracs front and rear, was a great combination for snow, more useful than our Rubicon's lockers in most conditions..
Lockers and snow can be unpredictable.

LSD will definitely help a lot more than lockers in snow for sure.

In saying that, a good set of tires is the best thing you can do for winter. I ran Duratracs past year and was really impressed with them considering they're not a a true winter tire.

The AWD t-case in XJ’s was a 242. Things a great case. All the way from HMMWV to the current JL/JT.

My best rig in the snow was a 2002 WJ Overland with the 247 and Varilock front and rear limited slips. Thing would go anywhere in the snow.

The only problem I see is, I don't think they make a truetrac for the new JL diff's.

I put truetrac's in F/R on my TJ.
