Hey Everyone,

We have a 2018 JLU Sahara 2.0T,
Out of no where we started having electrical issues it started off with the random error message saying service 4wd and an abs light as well. I figured maybe it was just a failing abs sensor which it was not, then we got a solid service 4wd light and the lights for the transfer case shifter were no longer illuminated. So I assumed maybe the transfer case control module was failing or there was a short in the wiring.
Before I got a chance to actually dig into it meaning within a day we were driving home and got a pretty strong burnt electrical odor inside the cabin and moment later the AC went from 60 degrees to staying at 76 and would return to 76 if I adjusted it, following this the 8.4 Display shut off as well as the climate controls. No new errors showed up on the dash at this time.
We got home and I started digging into it a bit, checked all the fuses and relays to assure they were seated and in working order which they were.
I read quite a bit about the green and white can-bus connectors being a common failure so I got ahold of both the green and white connectors and replaced both, let the jeep sit with the battery disconnected for a while after replacing the can-bus connectors then reconnected the battery and the same issue was still present, no radio display, no climate controls working, still the service 4wd light and now a check engine light.
I then removed the battery (only have one, the aux battery was removed and bypassed previously) took the battery to be load tested which checked out fine but I figured cant hurt to replace it anyway so I did.
New battery same issues.
We have also had a JL Tazer installed since the purchase of the jeep in 2018 and have never had an issue. With that said I figured ok well I will remove it from the equation followed the complete un-marrying Process and the issues remained.
I then checked the firmware on the tazer which was not the newest so I did update it and reinstalled the tazer. Once Married it completed its update process in the jeep and all was done. Still same issues.
I had a friend come by with his Snap on Scanner and the access to get through the security gateway but for some reason when we were plugged in none of the functions we tested in the jeep door locks horn etc showed to be on/off through the scan tool although they were physically working. So found that odd. We then used the scan tool to power on the radio and etc to which the radio did decide to turn on and oddly everything else did as well, with the exception of still having the service 4wd light.
We had to use the jeep to run some errands and while out after being fine for an entire day the same array of issues resurfaced plus a few more, door locks not functioning properly via button in the jeep or key fob, power limitation message, ess not ready, and the power steering also gave out for a moment luckily it was on our road, I pulled the jeep in the driveway and shut it off, tried to restart it and the gauge cluster would power on but the jeep wouldnt start. So I let it sit for awhile with the battery negative disconnected again to reset everything, after this the jeep still wouldn’t start. I ended up unplugging all of the canbus connectors then re installed them to which everything started working again. At this point im not quite sure what is going on. .

Has anyone has any issues similar and actually found the problem? If so I would love to hear the solution. Im starting to feel it may not be the transfer case control module but im leaning that way because of the consistent service 4wd light.

I was also able to pull all of the DTC codes from the jeep as well which are listed.

I've not had any of those issues with my 2018 JLU, however when you mentioned unplugging and plugging all the canbus connections it reminds me of others reporting similar weird and numerous electrical issues.

The reported fix for others was replacing the canbus unit and their problems were resolved.

Just a thought.

And Welcome to the forum!

Hey,
Thanks for the response, I did replace the canbus connector as well. Unfortunately all the same issues remain.

Sorry to hear that didn't help. Have you tried searching this forum for others with similar issues? There is a Google search engine option that allows you multiple key words.

For anyone that is troubleshooting the Can-bus system. There is another can-bus block in the rear passenger side of the jeep behind the panel, its not exposed like the two behind the glove box. I haven't

Have you tried disconnecting one canbus connection at a time? Might get you better results than just replacing the blocks.
