20" Wheels or 17" Wheels

I agree, too bad 16" are taboo. They're cheap as dirt and nothing wrong with them. I just bought a set of 5, 18" jeep gladiator rims for less width and sidewall height rubber weight and better roadable/AT tread patterns that don't sing at highway speed. I don't need 11"+ wide tires! They get mighty hot here in Florida!

Cheap rubber for 16s will be getting harder to find Im sure with the push for bigger wheels on top of a 16 just not clearing the JLs brakes.

My 16s cleared the brakes but hits wheel weights if they are placed on the inside of the wheel.

There are a lot of 315/75R16 options for those that stay at 35s but I did move to 17s when I jumped to 37s.

@yokramer , And will get worse with time. The last set of 35/12.50/16.5’s for my old PU a few years ago the only ones found were Interco’s. Likely new wheels will be needed next time.

edit- if another “Obsolete” part doesn’t take it out first, like the ignition control module a few years ago.

Yup I used to run 15s on my Miata when auto crossing and had to buy some 16s because all the good tires dried up in the 15 sizes. Just a natural evolution of things sadly.

18'S Ride so much nicer. Kinda off topic but the lift is all set. Installing new head lights and cutting the bumper this weekend. Eventually 6monkeys bumper but not just yet so I'll throw an aggressive cut on the front bumper for now.

You can now get 42s in both 17" or 20" rim size so its personal preference and it does not matter.

Miata's are so much fun!! Had a bone stock 2000 automatic (it was my wife's) Doesn't make enough power to get you in trouble so you can whip that thing around. For some reason this one had a limited slip rear and was a little hairy in the rain sometimes. Great car, that one looks like more fun with those mods!!

Yea it was a blast, set up for the track/auto cross and then go playing in the NC mountains on the weekends when not racing. Thousands of miles bombing around the Appalachians top down way faster than I should have been. Been looking at another one for better commuting, or another motorcycle.

Damn, I guess I am too OLD SCHOOL! There was a time in my life that if you could run 15 inch wheel with 31 inch tires on a Jeep you were pretty bad ass.

When buying our current house, we tried to buy the house a few doors down, but they were playing too many games, but anyway. The person selling it was a bigwig in a local Miata club. A girl that works with me now knows him and he's not well liked. The husband of the girl in my office has an RX7, Miatas, C6 ZR1, a couple 240sx' and some other stuff. That house has sold 3 times since and the current owner is a Miata guy. I only know because UPS dropped off a turbo, down pipe(I think) and intercooler from Flyin' Miata at my house with their address on it. I took it to there house and knocked on the door. They were on the phone with UPS, because they had just seen the Brown Santa Truck drive by and got the delivery notification, but no goodies on their porch.

I went from the Miata to an RX7 and got a ton of free and traded parts for the 7 which by girl math Im out ahead at this point lol That said the 7 is the garage doing Rotary things waiting for me to finish fucking with the Jeep to button up the last bits to get it back in the road.
