Maybe good news? I have an engineer I think from Bestop coming down to look at it this week. Luckily I'm in Colorado and they are too.
I also have this issue and took pictures and a video. So please report back after you meet with them. Thanks.

So I misunderstood and it wasn't an engineer, but a quality control guy. He came and looked at it and said it looks like it was assembled correctly but due to my Jeep being an earlier build the top might have had some bad tolerances due to being an even earlier 2 door soft top build. He suggested a warranty replacement and wanted my top when they were done. Said it could be as simple as the tension wires being a tad to long and / or the top being a bit to wide. Either way it isn't working as intended. He was a trally nice guy.

He did mention the new tops have been changed a bit and might fit better. The tailgate issue has been fixed (Tailgate hitting the edge of the rear window).

He took a ton of pictures to take back and hopefully fix the issue. I let him know I think the c channel should be on the fabric instead of the framing to actually seal the top as the rear window does.

Now the fun warranty part happens lol.

At least they are working with you, so that's a plus! Now, hopefully you get a functioning top soon.

Yea, my dealership has been really cool about these things.

They did warranty a top previously for someone but they did it "wrong." Apparently the top comes in just the fabric or fabric plus framing. Jeep tells the service departments not to install the tops themselves and to sublet it out to a trim shop. Well his trim shop wasn't comfortable removing the top and installing a new top into existing frames due to it being riveted (their words not mine). Apparently the top plus frame is an accessory and not warrantied but the fabric itself is.

Service manager mentioned all his reps were in Detroit for the Gladiator and should be back next week.

Jeep needs to warranty the top plus frame. How can you expect a local trim shop who has never worked on this new jeep top to do this well their first time, plus there are rivets.....

I will be visiting my dealer (who has been very good over the years) next week to discuss....will keep this thread updated with what I find out.

Update!

So I have a new top installed today. Odd that they told me Jeep tells them to have the trim shop do it but it was done at the dealership. Not sure if a trim guy came out or if the dealer's techs did it.

Right off the bat I can tell the top has more downward pull. I can still get my hand up into the top but it isn't quite as easy. I hope I'm wrong but it seems like I will have the same issues, it will just take a bit more wind to cause it.

I will keep you guys updated!

That is good news. I have a new top on the way. My dealer says it will be here next week.

Did they replace the windows also or just the top?

Windows too. I received a "newer" version of the top. According to the Besttop QC guy they did make some adjustments since the 2 doors came out. One thing they "fixed" was the possibility of the tailgate hitting the rear window.

It's kind of nice having the windows all new and see through.

That sounds good. My dealer was not sure if they were shipping windows with the top. My windows have a few minor issues so I hope I get the same as you.

What do you mean by more downward pull?

Might ask your dealer about that BDJeep1, mine had an issue when he first tried to warranty a top and ordered the whole kit. Jeep refused to cover it. This time he had to go through his rep for it.

As to downward pull, if you pull up right behind the doors it was very easy to get my whole hand in there with my other top. The wire that keeps the top down is probably a little shorter making it harder to pop up. Seems to me the C channel on the mounting hardware should have just been sewed into the top.

So I've had the top a few days now and driven in some good wind. Top seems to be holding up better (or down lol). I didn't notice it opening up like in my video.

I DO notice however that it tends to rattle. And sometimes the side seems to make the sound your seatbelts do when you have no doors on. At first I thought it was a speaker doing some static or something then I got to thinking it might be the top.

Time will tell and I'll keep updating here.

ZeroTrev, thanks for the update. I am supposed to get my new top this week. I will report back how well it does.

My current top would make noise that sounds similar. I put some Velcro on the metal braces where it might be hitting the plastic sport bar. If you raise your left hand up while sitting in the drivers seat and grab the metal braces when you hear the noise you might be able to track it down and do something similar. Mine occurred when going over bumps.

Welp, had a great test for the new top... Colorado Springs was hammered with a blizzard yesterday and the top did about the same as the original, worse in some aspects.
Snow got in and froze the top sides open. Snow got onto the roll bar and melted down the rollbar into both seats and on/in the center console. The side windows had a huge gap but the rear window didnt have it hardly at all.
