lol well plus or minus, depending on the group size and terrain. you will not be able to hear someone when others can. it isnt a deal killer as your trail mates can pass it on back as is customary and your messages will be passed forward if need be also. its a good way to just start, you will gain much just from being out. if a handheld feels the most comfortable, then a hand helds a good place to start. if you find yourself wheeling every weekend then you will soon dispose of the handheld for better options. if you only go out once or twice a year the handheld will suffice. the cb isnt really an emergency communication device as it is a trail group communication device, so as long as a rig or two in front and a rig or two behind can hear you then you will be ok for a newb. in a well organized large group a lot of times will have a few guys on ham that they will spread thru the group and for sure at the tail spot. they have much better range and messages can be spread thru the group that way too.B
well... just rig in front and behind... can’t talk to the third one over? That might not be sufficient for a Jeep caravan!
I was thinking the same thing. Here's the handset I have in my cart:Hmm.... that might need to do for me, unless I come over and have you help me, John! If a hand held is reasonable for a trail run, that might be sufficient for me.
John, while I agree with you 100%, why would you piss away $50 on a handheld when for another $50 you could have the real deal. Quadratec has an antenna mount for $18 that mounts on the spare tire carrier. Christina & TJ, before you take the easy way out, think long term.lol well plus or minus, depending on the group size and terrain. you will not be able to hear someone when others can. it isnt a deal killer as your trail mates can pass it on back as is customary and your messages will be passed forward if need be also. its a good way to just start, you will gain much just from being out. if a handheld feels the most comfortable, then a hand helds a good place to start. if you find yourself wheeling every weekend then you will soon dispose of the handheld for better options. if you only go out once or twice a year the handheld will suffice. the cb isnt really an emergency communication device as it is a trail group communication device, so as long as a rig or two in front and a rig or two behind can hear you then you will be ok for a newb. in a well organized large group a lot of times will have a few guys on ham that they will spread thru the group and for sure at the tail spot. they have much better range and messages can be spread thru the group that way too.
Tom, all I can see is John and Jenn’s Utube with the wraparound and holes all over. I shudder when I think of how complex it is. But I will look into some, and utube videos on mounting some.John, while I agree with you 100%, why would you piss away $50 on a handheld when for another $50 you could have the real deal. I could do a field, but that's about it for now! I admit I'm a sissy when it comes to driving my Jeep, as I don't want a scratch or mark on this baby! lolI know how you feel, I am getting the urge to drive through a field or find a rock to climb up on!
Maybe I'll try something a little more daring when she's older and has a few door dings...Love your winter shot!Great shots! How are you transporting the kayak? If I go with roof mount system the Jeep will be too high to fit in the garage door, so for me a trailer seems to be the best option but I didn't go with the tow package, or the steel bumpers. Both options I regret not getting. Here is a winter shot from a couple years ago on the Hudson River in Hudson.

I’ve never kayaked on the Hudson when there were icebergs floating around...
Thanks! That was near my house. Everything is so green after all the rain from earlier this month.Nice pic!
Where was that taken?

G’morning Fred! Sounds like an awesome long weekend you have planned! I’ve been thinking lately maybe I should just pull the trigger on wheels & tires, since the aftermarket doesn’t have much else out yet! Hmmmm.....Happy Friday! After Saturday I am off till Wed! The best off roading I have done was in Colorado. The trails are made for the Jeep, and mainly of rock, no brush to get scratches and the views are second to none. Even though I am in the country we have no real trails. But I am like you, I paid too much for my Jeep and want to keep it perfect! That's why I did it. Can't get rid of the urge to do something for the Jeep. Bigger tires have been on my mind for a while. The tires are going on the stock rims for now as getting new wheels seems a bit complicated with backspacing and offset involved and no real off road jeep shop nearby. I will wait and learn more about it. There is a big Jeep rally in Connecticut Sept 15th. and I no doubt will learn a lot there.G’morning Fred! Sounds like an awesome long weekend you have planned! You can, Lydia. But remember Vida and you have a long life together, and you don’t need to rush if you don’t see what you want.G’morning Fred! Sounds like an awesome long weekend you have planned!
