For what it's worth, I live and work out of NYC, but would take just about any excuse to go up the Hudson River Valley.

PS: I need to be more active in this thread it seems...

Especially on a day like yesterday when Manhattan felt like a giant furnace! Plus it definitely feels like Jeep territory up here. I also live/work in NYC 5 days a week but up here feels as much (sometimes more) like home to me.

It’s about to become harder to escape to the Hudson Valley though: they just began construction on 495 by the Lincoln Tunnel helix, so congestion is about to go from bad to worse... Even if taking the Holland Tunnel or GWB, I suppose there will be a domino effect. Glad I’ll have the Rubi red dashboard and 8”4 Infotainment screen to keep me (somewhat) happy when stuck in traffic.

First couple of times it was a pain in the rectorial region! Only because the wipers were so hard to remove at first. But now that I've taken them off several times, it's a breeze! I can have it down now in under 5 minutes. Once you take off the wipers, unscrew the four bolts behind your visor, pop the top and lift it up a bit (for soft tops. For hard tops you may have to remove the two panels. Check your manual on that) then push the windshield a bit to get it off the frame and carefully lower it down (it's not heavy).

Silly question from new gal here, but... practically speaking, in what scenario would you want/need to take the windshield down? It looks darn good and it’s nice to know that you can, but I generally prefer to enjoy mud masks at the spa than on the trails! And I can’t imagine it being super fun above 40-50mph either. Am I missing a secret Jeep move?

Silly question from new gal here, but... practically speaking, in what scenario would you want/need to take the windshield down? It looks darn good and it’s nice to know that you can, but I generally prefer to enjoy mud masks at the spa than on the trails! And I can’t imagine it being super fun above 40-50mph either. Am I missing a secret Jeep move?

That's not a silly question at all! The only time I have Stormie's windshield down is when I'm on trails and places where the wildlife I photograph is frequently flying, crossing or running in front of me. Shooting through glass is a no-no and should be avoided whenever possible in order to get the best quality photo. I'm rarely going over 20 mph (or so) due to anything really faster than that is unsafe; but if I ever have to go faster (like 30 or so), I have a pair of pilot's goggles I wear to keep the kaka out of my eyes. Plus, I strap down the windshield so it doesn't bounce around and break.
It actually feels really cool driving around with the windshield down, the top all the way down and the doors off! I love it!

I haven’t done it, but on the trail i think it would be nice, if you’re topless. You would have an unencumbered 360. And remember, TJ takes pictures! (Sorry TJ, your “taking pictures” is like calling my Jeep a “car”! Lol)
Any progress on your turbo, Alex? Are you following the JG?

So nice of you to ask! Sadly no progress with my little Turbo... Still in I as of yesterday, per the 866 number.
I’m not on JG (great data, but possibly the least user-friendly interface I’ve ever encountered!) but I call the dedicated FCA number for late JL deliveries about twice a week.
Great point about pictures. It didn’t cross my mind as I would typically get out of the vehicle for that, but of course I never had the option of taking the windshield down before. Ah, all the new possibilities this Jeep will offer... If I ever get it!

Fred, just installed my TazerJL yesterday but the tires were swapped out at the dealership so I'm not really gonna have valid numbers, sorry. Installed my tailgate reinforcement , stubby antenna & Topsy rear window hinge eyelets today. My mod pile is going down! lol

Alex, I kinda treat my Jeeps as a 4 wheel motorcycle. In my first Jeep (a 1976 CJ-5), a buddy and I did a poker run with doors off & top and windshield down wearing WWII helmet liners & googles. Had a ball & were the hit of the run. It's just something else that you can do with a Jeep that you can't do with any other vehicle!
