This is clever, I've used something like this many moons ago, before overlanding was a thing. Now look up a "log lever winch" for those really bushcrafty ways to pull out your truck. Im still waiting for a situation where i can use it.
yes ive seen that on youtube before very ingenious .

So Friday was pickup day for me, and it was 300 miles to get back home.

These are my initial impressions from someone that has never owned a Jeep before:

The good:
1. It looks really great. Awesome.
2. Wind Noise (hard-top) is not as bad as I feared. Its definitely there, but not a big deal.
3. Insides look great and is comfy
4. Features like upgraded audio is really good, and blind spot detection also works great.
5. Driving around town and on slower roads is really great. Turns are nimble and the vehicle just feels solid, in a good way.

The bad:
1. The drive on the highway is nerve-wrecking. It kinda feels like wrestling an anaconda to keep the Jeep driving straight. There were a couple of times I thought o sh1t im going to lose control. Literally cant go above 70 to pass someone, its just too dangerous. Ive been following the thread on the steering, so I lowered the pressure out my tires a bit, and it did seem to help. Either that or I got used to handling her. I say better, definitely not good. Ill leave it as is for a couple 100 miles, and if I still feel like theres something weird ill take it to a dealer.

If it wasnt for the driving on the highway thing I would say this was a slam-dunk purchase, but im a little concerned with it. I dont think my wife will drive it as is, it was really scary at times.
Well.....it ain't no BMW, but Jeeps have always been a bit of an adrenaline rush above 60 mph. I've had 3 since 1980 and every one would do a dance when emergency lane changes are required for survival.

Naked? Well I've been to the Harley rally in Sturgis! What you got there is sort of a "soccer mom" experience. ;)

I was really hoping they had fixed the steering issues by now, six months into builds.

Apparently some members have had good luck with the steering “breaking in” and getting better after a couple thousand miles. If you wanna wait for that.
My steering has been perfect since day one. This issue is very, very strange. How are only some builds affected?

I can, and have, passed 18 wheelers going 75 with just one hand on the wheel. It doesn’t steer like my Yukon, but it s not far off from it.

Hope there is a fix for you guys, soon. :-/

They have a bad shaft tho, thats locking up or restricting steering chock to chock. This just sounds like the typical "never drove a truck before" issue and hopefully thats all it is. Which will pass with experience.
There is another thread that talks about loose steering and dead spot in center. Few of those folks had to have repairs. Though I agree for many it’s a matter of getting used to the steering. On a test drive it took me a couple of miles to remember this is not a sports car!

So I’ve had my Jeep for about a week now, but it’s been pretty busy around here...unpacking the houseful of boxes and getting ready to assume my new position. I haven’t taken a bunch of photos yet, but I offer up these first impressions:

This thing is awesome...though it’s been nearly 13 years since I bought my last new Jeep, this JL Rubicon feels like a luxury SUV...and surprisingly peppy off the line. ESS is taking some getting used to, but not irritating.

Steering is fine, but this thing turns on dime. 100+ temps does cause my normal 37psi reading jump up a few, but it doesn’t cause it to be all over the road.

Didn’t get the headliners, and even with the high heat I’m not feeling like my brain is boiling without them. The Alpine easily handles road noise, so not sure if I’ll get them (Once the aftermarket starts making them). I did have a little glitch with Bluetooth not working properly after using CarPlay but it seems to have worked itself out. It would connect but music would only play through my iPhone speaker.

I didn’t get the LED lights either, the halogens work fine for me at night...but the halo looks cool, so I might get them later.

I’m averaging 17.6 mpg, but only city driving for 150ish miles.

I’ve only added floor mats and sill guards; friends say they wouldn’t change a thing about it, clearly not Jeep people...but I’m good for now. Oh, I did order a set of Bartact seat covers; unfortunately, they didn’t fit. The folks at Bartact sent me a shipping label the day I called them....I was apparantly the second customer for the JL seats...will get those in the mail this week....and continue to patiently wait for the aftermarket to start appeasing us unicorns.

I’ll try to get some pics up this week.

Happy Jeeping

I just picked mine up on Thursday and had to take my dog to the vet, which is outside of the city. At 100 KM/hr it felt great. I was worried that it would handle like a shopping cart, but was pleasantly surprised. I thought it handled better on the hwy than in the city.

As I mentioned above, I just got mine a few days ago and LOVE IT!!! I was worried cause I really didn't like the 2-dr JK, which the dealer loaned me last year for a weekend. This one is much improved - less bumpy and stick shift knob doesn't shake anymore! My brother bought a 4-dr last year and I loved driving it. I test drove a lot of SUVs and they were all boring, only the Jeep was fun! I figure maybe when I'm 80 I'll get the Mazda CX-5, but that's a long way off! lol OR, maybe I'll still be driving a Jeep when I'm old, I hope so... Here are a few pics. Was sad to say good-bye to my VW. Thanks everyone for your support during this long wait. I plan to keep reading the posts, as you guys are a wealth of information!
