So far so good with our new mirrors! Compared to another pair we had with our last Jeep, these are much better! I ordered my new tire cover too! I compromised...the gecko was approved by my husband and 3 sons. I had a heart and a flower picked out...that didn’t fly! Lol! :cwl:

So Friday was pickup day for me, and it was 300 miles to get back home.

These are my initial impressions from someone that has never owned a Jeep before:

The good:
1. It looks really great. Awesome.
2. Wind Noise (hard-top) is not as bad as I feared. Its definitely there, but not a big deal.
3. Insides look great and is comfy
4. Features like upgraded audio is really good, and blind spot detection also works great.
5. Driving around town and on slower roads is really great. Turns are nimble and the vehicle just feels solid, in a good way.

The bad:
1. The drive on the highway is nerve-wrecking. It kinda feels like wrestling an anaconda to keep the Jeep driving straight. There were a couple of times I thought o sh1t im going to lose control. Literally cant go above 70 to pass someone, its just too dangerous. Ive been following the thread on the steering, so I lowered the pressure out my tires a bit, and it did seem to help. Either that or I got used to handling her. I say better, definitely not good. Ill leave it as is for a couple 100 miles, and if I still feel like theres something weird ill take it to a dealer.

If it wasnt for the driving on the highway thing I would say this was a slam-dunk purchase, but im a little concerned with it. I dont think my wife will drive it as is, it was really scary at times.

Honestly, most any 4x4 truck with solid axles is a bit of a handful to drive at first. Even the big ones. You will get used to it to the point of no longer noticing, untill you get into a car again lol hopefully that's all it is.

Couple questions for those in the know - first, my dealer is not the greatest with updates, but I have lots of time to wait so not going to raise a stink. I have a VON but no VIN. Is it possible to see if VIN has been created without waiting for my dealer?

Second, I really want the red dash panels to go with my Mojito Rubi. Anyone swapped these yet? I’m thinking factory parts order would be better than trying to match with paint?

Hit up Jeep chat or call them and they will be able to give you your VIN if it is available.

I was really hoping they had fixed the steering issues by now, six months into builds.

Apparently some members have had good luck with the steering “breaking in” and getting better after a couple thousand miles. If you wanna wait for that.

That's just a jeep if you have never owned one before you wont be use to it, but after a thousand miles you will be. Remember its a box traveling at seventy mph how do you expect it to handle? Definitely check the tire pressure though , because dealers or factory inflating tires to 45 like some members have seen will only make it worse.

It is not merely “a Jeep thing”. Dozens of owners who have owned several wranglers each have made that very clear in the steering issue threads. There’s actually a defect or problem for some, not just “that’s how a short wheelbase solid axle vehicle drives”.

Thats the thing, ive never owned one so I dont know whats normal and whats not. Thats why ill probably just stick with it for a while and see how it goes.

A great day, but no video of the Jeep getting up and around the switchbacks. Next time.

Am I the only one who wonders at so many of the little details and never gets back to posting them?

How great is that light in the trunk?
Did I really just go over that rock without even touching it?
What a great tailgate that is. Solid and will even hold my beer!

The steering wheel is just the right feel. The steering just feels right. I can feel what that rock is doing under the passenger side front tire. How do they do that?
Wow, these lights really light up the road. (No I didn't forget my brights. THESE are my brights!)

There were some people who reported their steering completely locking up , which is a different issue. i have owned two jeeps before , i dont have my jl yet so i cant say for sure, but i remember how many people were complaining about the jk's manual shifter, and they were all people who came from nice sport car manuals , and never drove a truck shifter which is what the jk had , the same trans MB used in their small trucks. All the people who had jeeps before or drove a truck for a living had no problems. I'll say it again your driving a box down the road with virtual no aerodynamics , the faster you go the worse its going to handle.

This is clever, I've used something like this many moons ago, before overlanding was a thing. Now look up a "log lever winch" for those really bushcrafty ways to pull out your truck. Im still waiting for a situation where i can use it.

They have a bad shaft tho, thats locking up or restricting steering chock to chock. This just sounds like the typical "never drove a truck before" issue and hopefully thats all it is. Which will pass with experience.
