My JLUR 4xe makes that sound during cold starts for a minute or two, then runs smoothly after it reached operating temp. Dealer recognized the issue, but said it was normal. I wouldn’t say such an audible knock (it’s pretty easy to be heard even within the cabin) is normal - and I’m somewhat certain that sooner or later throughout the lifetime of this engine it’s going to grenade. Not confidence inspiring given to his vehicle is less than 2 weeks old with less than 400 miles. They come from the factory like that?? @JeepCares

By the way, I’ve only been running Shell V-Power 93…

Just so you know, Toyota will grenade themselves too. Its the case of mass production. You cannot expect absolute perfection. I suspect, if this was a major problem, then this forum would have a sticky at the top with thousands of people with the same problem. Since it does not, I look at this as the 1% that will fail.
Yup, my Tacoma left me stranded at under 16k miles due to a failed ignition coil, then due to a failed fuel pump. Im sure some brands tend to have better quality control, but I would buy a car just for that reason. They all have issues

We have a 2019 Wrangler JLU with 2.0T and for the past year we have experienced a hard knocking noise from the engine. We have taken the JLU to several dealers, a couple dealers said the noise was normal, other told me there is an issue but they can not pinpoint the problem. They also said there is really nothing they can do unless a check engine light or code comes up. Has anyone else experienced this issue with the 2.0T?

Thank you in advance for your help

I am having the same problem with my 2019 rubicon 2.0.

Well we just picked up a 2019 Wra gler 2 door with the Etorque and literally when I started it I thought dealer made a mistake and put 2.0T on the website but had a diesel. Opened hood and seen the 2.0 and thought something is really wrong here. Going to put bottle of carbon and injector cleaner through it plus put tank premium in it to see if that helps.

Change the oil from what’s ever you are using now i.e. 10-30. Start using 10-40’

use a higher octave fuel like 91 + with an octane booster.

In the mean time.. let the engine run -BE CAREFUL when doing this next step. And only IF you or someone thinks it’s. Missfire. A simple way to find out is make sure it’s dark enough under the hood. Use a long screwdriver and touch each coil. If it has a crack or a broken wiring. It will arc.
OR. RENT. BORROW - Buy a scanner and scan the ECU. …
Let me know …

Just picked up a OBD2 scanner today so what would I look for on the scanner?

Scan the vin. Scan the codes. Read the codes google it or post it here
It will have a breakdown
If there is any codes. IGN -misfire. Cyl …
Or MAF. (MAs air flow ). FP. Fuel pressure etc
Based of the codes. You will have a start line

I've bee n wondering about thicker oil. I've been using 5/30 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for about 10K miles. Before that, it was Amsoil 5/30 Signature. All with WIX filters. I think I've always had the knock, and I have 85K miles on the rig now. Did slightly thicker oil help? I don't care for any less fuel efficiency due to a thicker oil due to windage, but my concern is on modern engines the journals, and bearings seem to be a bit less tolerant. If this was a 1987 chevy 350, I wouldn't hesitate to run anything from a 0/40 all the way to a 15/40...LOL

I hear what you are saying. If it was my engine I would try 10-40 just to knock out the possibilities

I’ve got an appointment at a trusted - non-dealer - mechanic on the 8th… curious to see what they say about this diesel knock - which occurs in some but not all of the 2.0s…..
