I am new here....... but, I have snooped for a bit.

I am looking at buying a 2019 JLU 2.0. There is a good chance that about 2 or 3 years from now I will go on an out of country assignment for about 10 months and my car will need to be stored.

Any thoughts about the long term storage of this vehicle? Specifically, that 48volt battery?

I know this isn’t what you’re looking for but there are many vehicle storage places that will keep it clean, started, tires moving, and critters out for fairly reasonable money. This would be much much cheaper than the cost of the 48v battery. For a period as long as you are describing I would look at this route.

Yes, thank you for that. I knew these places were an option. It might be best if I buy the V6 instead.

for 10 months, change engine oil, put fuel stabilizer in tank, park in a secure space, if you can get tires off floor, disconnect batteries under hood, close all windows. cover with old bed sheets, they will be able to breathe and not keep condensation on Jeep. if out side anything you put on to cover Jeep tighten down real good to not get chafing on anything. 10 months is not a big deal, you might need to charge 12 volt battery but I would bet not even that. many collector / muscle cars get stored sometimes longer than that with no issues.

So, for the 2.0L, you advise that there is nothing I need to do for the 48v battery system? Or are you saying that the only thing I need to do is disconnect the 48v and 12v batteries?

Do you have a friend who can just start it periodically? 2.0 or 3.6, cars sitting isn't great for them. This would be an option that wouldn't cost you much more than some beer from time to time, but keep the car in better shape than just letting it sit.

That said, batteries with the proper storage charge tend to last a good while before having issues from self-discharge, especially if all parasitic draw is removed. 10 months is at the edge of what I would be comfortable with re: a vehicle sitting, regardless of the model. Try to get someone to start it and move it around from time to time if you can.

Don't have someone just start jeep for a short time, engine would need at least a half hour to get good and hot and to recharge batteries. disconnect negative terminals so no draw on system. you can also ask dealer their opinion.
is the Jeep to be stored inside or out?

I may take the friend route. Thanks.

Likely inside in a garage.

I will ask the dealer as well. I will also likely send a question to Jeep. Anyone have an idea about who/where at Jeep I might contact?

I wrote to Jeep. Their answer really didn’t address the 48v battery.

It seems a simpler bet for me to buy the v6 and not worry about how to maintain a $3500 LiOn battery in storage for 10 months without ruining it......

I really don't think it will be an issue.

Under federal law, the hybrid battery has an 8 year/80k mile warranty.
