Another newbie question. Good chance of a power outage coming my way and I am wondering what I can run off the 110 volt plug-in. Keurig and electric griddle off extension cord ok? How long can I have something plugged in without draining the car battery?

I can run a medium crockpot, but not a large one (the breaker trips). You'll drain the battery fairly quick.

That outlet is 150Watts @ 115VAC. That is a little over 1 amp. So, It cannot power a lot. it is intended for small electronics (phone chargers, computers, etc). If you want to run more, you can pick up an inverter. 1200W would give you about 10 amps. That should be enough to cover the griddle and coffee pot.

Thanks all. What’s the fix if the breaker trips? Do I need to replace a fuse or is there a breaker somewhere I don’t know about?

IMHO

Short Answer: A (mini) generator is your play.

Long Answer:

1) Will your trim level even have the 110 outlet?
2) Is the outlet even on when the engine's off, or if your trim level has the 12V outlet in back (always on by factory default) will you use that with purchased alternator, or
3) If you'll be doing this with the engine on, and whether, if so, you're
4) Getting the alternator upgrade (comes with tow package?), and then there's
5) Amp hours and wattage convertion
6) Battery age
7) Ambient temp
8) Appliance draw versus alternator supply, and
9) AC outlet provides 150 watts at best, and
10) Things I missed,
11) Murphy's Law, and
12) luck...etc.

And we can talk about disconnecting and running off the main battery only so the JL still cranks (it needs a juiced ESS battery to do so.)

...and this becomes a hot mess. See the short answer. : )

From my manual:

"The power inverter is designed with built-in overload protection. If the power rating of 150Watts is exceeded, the power inverter will automatically shut down. Once the electrical device has been removed from the outlet, the inverter should automatically reset. If the power rating exceeds approximately 170 Watts, the power inverter may have to be reset manually."

The manual's on the forum I recall. Ask if you want to know where. : - )

I’m safe. I haven’t seen 170 in awhile.

The outlet will not handle much, I tried to use a soldering iron and it would only run for 5 seconds or so. I bought a 25w soldering iron and it works. Btw, the outlet is only on when the engine is running. If you pop the circuit breaker you only have to turn the Engine off for a few seconds and it will reset itself.

Does anyone know of the physical location of the inverter?

bump...

I found a few illustrations of MOPAR parts numbers

Voltage Converter Module - Mopar (68349348AA)
Voltage Converter Module - Mopar (68349353AA)

shown as part 14 in this image, but it does not elaborate on the location

I'd guess the module is located directly behind the plug in the console. Seems unlikely that they'd run 110V wiring any distance in the vehicle for safety reasons.

The 150 watts of 110vAC that comes out of the inverter does not seem any less safe than the 30 amps of 12vDC that can go in to it.

I use the plug in the Jeep to run a fish tank air pump - so my fish don't die during a power outage. Doing so, I've run down the battery low enough that the engine won't turn over. So, I merely recharge the battery, and go at it again.

Did you let xzibit put a fish tank in your Jeep?

;)Gosh Hunter. Why don't you get a power strip for the JL's outlet and plug not only your fish tank air pump into it but a battery charger as well, the latter's cables connected back to the JL's main battery?! ;)
