35" Tire Upgrade

I also swapped in some 35s this past weekend. The lift hasn't been installed yet (gamechanger 2.5) but I really love the look of the bigger tire.

So just shy of the 2 year mark and 22k miles on my 2018 JLUR I decided to upgrade the tire size. I stayed with the BFs as I like the quietness, handling, and they were wearing perfect with rotations every 6K miles. I upgraded to the 315/70/17 mounted on the OEM rims. I now have about 200 miles and I have noticed a few things:

• Softer ride, JLUR is taller now noticed that when I cleaned the windshield
• Seems to handle even better on off/on ramps at speeds above 40 not sure why expected the opposite with a taller side wall
• 1st 150 miles felt like shifting wasn't as crisp and a bit sluggish, and down shifts took to long, and my combined mileage went from 17.9 to 15.7 to 16
• next 50 miles things adjusted and back to normal shifting and JLUR felt quicker, and combined mileage indicated 18.3 yesterday, Hmmm I did do one hard launch which chirped the tires and it felt just as fast to 60 mph not sure if that caused a change
• I noticed that digital speedo is 2-3 mph faster then the gps speed
• Called 3 jeep dealers, 2 said they can't do calibration other said I have to by a device, found a 4th dealer that will do it on Tuesday
• the tires look great on the Rubi, I have pressures set at 37 psi and it tracks straight and true (I did not have any steering issues before upgrade)

I welcome feedback from others that made the upgrade...

Going to 35" from stock, your speedometer will now read 5-10% slower than you are actually traveling (Depending on what your stock tire size was). Also, your mpg will drop about the same percent. This is just an estimate, since mpg will also be effected by the weight of the 35" tires you purchased.

get the Tazer it works great and its an easy install. I was 7mph off and it not only adjusted that but my shift points went back to normal.

I have the same size tires on stock wheels, but they are Milestar Pats. The dealer wanted $150 to program the tire size. So, I just bought a FlashCal and used it to do the tire size, enable sway bar disconnect in 4H, and one or two other minor things. And I'm pretty sure I'm going to go to 37s and regear down the road, maybe next year. So I'll be able to reprogram the gear ratio and tire size without having to pay the dealer for anything.

Did you have to do a lift for the tires not to rub. I have a 2018 Rubi

Nope. Not with 35s on a Rubi. I have no lift and don't get any rubbing.

I also have a 18 JL and went with 35 Nitto Grapplers on 18" XD rims, along with a 3" lift. I didn't even try asking the dealership about calibrating the speedo and just bought a FlashCal. Like Cosmo said, you can adjust not only for tire size, but also set things like daytime running lamps, horn chirps etc. I'm happy with the purchase and would buy it again, even tho it is kinda pricey.
I had 285/70/17 KO2s prior and wanted to upgrade to 35s in a more aggressive tread. I'm real happy with the Nittos. Even tho the jeep is my daily driver they are fairly quiet and handle on the highway pretty good. I did the caulk test and found 30-31psi seems to be my sweet spot.

Overall I'm very pleased with how it handles, steers, and rides.

Had dealer recalibrate for tire size today $129, I don't plan on making any other upgrades that would require and ECU change so it was cheaper to let dealer do it. Dealer claimed MPH was off be 3 mph before reflash, I did notice that the 2 screens for mpg are back to normal I averaged 23.5 mpg on the drive back home on the beltway at 60 miles per hour and 18.3 combined almost the same as with the 33s...
