Finally done paying off my Jeep JLU and now it’s time to start my mods. I was looking for the best/biggest tire size for a stock lift on a sport altitude 2.0L. I believe it has entry level gearing as well. Any info would be of great help. Wanting 35” but not at the expensive of breaking or destroying the life of my Jeep

285/70/17 is the biggest safe play for stock configuration...remember, your fuel mileage will suffer

Throw a small spacer lift on, get the 35s (because you’ll regret it later if you go smaller) and call it a day. Use the rest of the saved money for adventures.

I'm one of the weirdos that actually likes running 32"-33" tires...but I'm not a hardcore offroader. Shouldn't someone get a well-matched lift for 35's? It seems with 35's being quite a bit heavier than stock Sport tires they might be harder on the OEM suspension's geometry? I feel that big of tires really needs components matched to serve the added weight/stress to maintain a decent lifespan of suspension & driveability of the vehicle?

Nope. Spacers work fine. Had em on my wife’s 18 JLU for 6 years until I traded it in

Btw, congrats on paying the jeep off. I feel like I have 11 years left on one and 13 years left on the other 😂

Thank you so much, I appreciate it. I’m sure you’re close to being done as well. Jeep On, Brother!

Performance will also suffer unless you plan on regearing. The Sport comes with a 3.45 axle ratio. The Rubicon comes with a 4.10 axle ratio with optional 4.56 and 4.88 ratios. My Rubicon has a 4.56 with stock 315/70’s (Extreme Off-road or XR package) and my Willys has 3.45 with stock 255/75’s. There’s a big difference in both fuel economy and performance. The Willys works fine for what it is but isn’t the rocket the Rubicon is. Both are equipped with the 8 speed automatic. The transmission in the Willys is much busier than the Rubicon and it shows in terms of performance. Two hills going into town; the Rubicon downshifts from 8 to 7 and the same hills the Willys downshifts from 8 to 5. Not that I care but running around in suburban driving the Rubicon gets 17-18 mpg and the Willys gets 21-22 mpg.

I went in the other direction and added a belly pan system staying with 33s. More overlander than crawler, still amazed what it can climb over (compared to my old Cherokee).
