Today I finally was able to replace my undersized spare tire with one that is the same as what I replaced my stock tires with.

I feel like I am growing up! ;)

You've just ensured no flat ever - as soon as you spend the $$$ on the spare you will never need that spare again.
Yeah, right? LOL!

To mitigate that, I am going to rotate the spare in as well. It will somewhat lengthen the tread wear of all of the tires, and hopefully keep an unused spare from dry-rotting. I ran this idea by my shop; they said it was a good idea.

I am on my 3rd set of tires on my jl at 15,000 miles, and now on my 7th jeep. I hope I never grow up.

Jeff, My rig had 35s which are TOYO Open Country A/T II XTREME (35X12.50RTLT).

I am very pleased with them.

just curious, but how many miles do you have on the other four that you are now going to introduce the 5th into the rotation?

Another benefit of a 5 tire rotation is never ending up with a spare that is noticeably larger than the rest. Too large of a difference in circumference is an invitation to bind, easily avoidable by keeping the 5th in the mix. To keep things simple I do oil, filter, and tires at the same time every 5k miles.

Congrats on the match, Jeff!

i made the jump to 5 of the same wheel and tire at the same time. I have around 7,000 miles on the new tires now. At my 5,000 mile service I had decided not to put the 5th tire into the rotation. Now just 2,000 miles more and I am regretting it.

The 4 on my rig still appear to be like new I’m thinking about checking circumference and then possibly adding the 5th into the mix ASAP.

What are people’s thoughts?

In the event it impacts people’s thoughts.... just a reminder my rig has 35ā€ TOYO Open Country A/T II XTREME (35X12.50RTLT).
