Anyone else having issues with their Apple Car Play working at times and not working at other times? I am wondering if this is a software issue or maybe a hardware problem?

Trying my best to NOT take my Jeep in for service... and I think you all know why.

7.0 or 8.4 screen? I suspect the 8.4 seems to have more issues than the 7.0, but that's just a hunch and not empirically proven.

We have the 8.4" screen and haven't noticed any issues. Anything in particular that you would like me to test?

7.0 screen and only one minor issue since we bought the vehicle 9 weeks or so ago.

What version if IOS are you running?

I've noticed the 8.4 gets "stuck" sometimes and refuses to recognize any CarPlay devices plugged in from any USB port, no matter the iOS version. This happened to me the day after I bought mine, so I drove it to a dealer and asked if they could simply reboot the system as it seems to be glitched.

They told me there's no way to reboot it and wanted to schedule a service appointment, after trying to disconnect the battery to reboot (does not reboot or cause a fresh boot).

I ended up pulling a few fuses related to the system, waiting 5 minutes, and it rebooted and all has been well since. One of the fuses was F11 but I did go through the whole list and pulled a few others vaguely related to USB/media/etc.

Sounds like you/they didn’t disconnect both batteries.

They said "hold on, let us try disconnecting the battery" and then they proceeded to only disconnect the main 12v battery under the hood. I wasn't about to argue the point on the spot although I was aware what they were doing wasn't going to cut power to the uconnect enough to reboot it.

until I realized that it was the non-Apple cable that was the problem.
From reading Carplay discussions elsewhere, it seems like a lot of folks have found iOS 13 Carplay to be more sensitive to cable issues then iOS 12 was. Using a fresh MFI certified cable seems to help a lot.

I was actually going to suggest the cable as well. I use android auto and I have found that I get the best luck with the OEM cable that came with my phone. This is in my Jeep and my 2018 Mazda that I had before.

Thanks. I will try that!

Are you running 13.1.2 ? The latest vs is suppose to take care of some of these issues. There’s also a rumor that Apple is cracking down on “non approved “ Apple cables , chargers etc.

Thank you Laura. I just did an ios update and I will make sure I am using a genuine Apple Lightning cable. Let me see how this works out.
