WOW! So do you forfeit the $1000 if you decide you don't want the Jeep? Or do they refund they money?
Well, yea... That's how deposits work. If you back out, you lose the deposit. :p

Had it been an automatic, I don't think they would have required a deposit, but b/c so few get sold with manuals, they are going to possibly have a hard time getting rid of it if I back out. So I think their deposit requirement is totally justified.

Congrats on the new Jeep! When did you order? Looks like I got a lot of the same exterior options as you did and also live in the Indianapolis area, so hoping I can get a good idea on how long this wait will be!

Ahh, I see. Even though I think everyone should know how to drive a manual transmission, not everyone does. I guess it's the "new" anti-theft thing! :like:

It will allow me to keep my boys from taking it out on the town. Over time I will teach them and my daughters how to drive a manual.

I learned how to drive on a manual and we (my husband) taught both of our kids to drive a manual. Both of their first vehicles were manuals. Teach them to drive a manual and they can anything. Our daughter learned how to parallel park a Ford F-250. Now people are impressed she actually knows how to parallel park and backup without issues.

I got a call yesterday afternoon from the dealership and said the vehicle should be in by July 10th. They also asked me to come down and do all the financing and paperwork tomorrow, so come delivery day, I just have to swing down and pick it up. They'll also be taking in my trade and giving me a loaner for the next 2 weeks. Part of me wonders if they're doing things this way because it's the end of the month and they want this sale to count...and they can probably flip my trade-in over the July 4th weekend?

Has anybody else done it this way? It feels really weird signing on a new car, sight-unseen. He did say if there were any problems with it when it comes off the truck, I can still refuse it...but still.
I think I asked before but where did you buy it?

I learned to drive one in a 2002 Trans Am, that I bought new and still have, and I haven't had an auto since before that. I like that not just anyone can jump up in it and take off.

Funny story about the manual... when my wife and I were test driving Jeeps, I wanted to drive a 6-speed. The young kid at the dealership that got the key for us came out to pull the Jeep out of the parking spot, inches away from the other Jeeps. He got ready to get in and then casually walked back to me and said "I'm going to let you pull it out and I'll just get in the back seat.". lol he couldn't drive a stick, but he wasn't about to admit that. My wife and I got a kick out of it.

My grandpa taught me how to drive on a CJ-2A... the same one my mom learned how to drive on, and the same one my oldest son is about to learn how to drive on. So I'm gonna go a step further and say everyone should learn how to drive on a jeep with a manual transmission, no doors, no top, no roll bar, no seat belts, and 10.5 gallons of gas directly under their butts. :)

That's awesome. My grandad's C1 Willy's Jeep is still in our family. He's had it 40+ years. Mine's a 60th AE.
