I’m going to get the Mopar tubular side steps (part #82215328). I called a local dealer and they want almost $400 to install them! They cost only $350 or so to buy!

Has anyone installed these and is doing so difficult? The one website I checked says it takes about 1-2 hours and “intermediate skill.” I’m no stranger to wrenches, but I don’t have a garage. I was thinking about just ordering to a friend’s house in the ‘burbs and going there one weekend to install them.

Thanks for any advice.

That's larceny. I'm a first-time owner & I installed those very same steps on my own. Shouldn't take you too much over an hour.

Thanks. After my post I read a bunch of reviews on a site that sells them, and several said how easy they are to install. That this dealer would quote me 2 hours of labor for a total of $378 is absolutely ridiculous. Either the dealer is a rip off joint (in which case I’m glad I’ve learned this lesson before every setting foot in there), or the standard Jeep service schedule for this is ridiculous.

I’m going to call a couple of other dealerships and see what they quote, just out of curiosity, but I intend to install them myself.

Dealers are out to make money. The job takes 30 minutes tops.

FYI a ratcheting wrench set makes life much easier installing the nuts on the pinch seams.

Find a local 4x4 shop. They’ll probably charge you an hour at $125-$150
