Did your JL have wobble, loose steering, or wandering? I believe the new track bar is for the wobble issues, not loose steering.
I had wobble and poor steering/wandering, if the trackbar is for wobble then that makes sense as the wobble stopped, however, I did the stabilizer and trackbar together so again it is clear as mud to me.

Check out these videos from other JL forum members and the product description points for the Synergy MFG drag link below. The loose steering could due where the pitman arm and drag link connects and an aftermarket drag link might fix the loose steering.

https://www.synergymfg.com/synergy-jeep-jl-heavy-duty-drag-link-kit.html
  • Increased tubing wall thickness improves drag link strength and steering feel. Offers a more direct connection to the road/trail compared to stock.
  • Bar is fully welded, unlike the crimped OEM design.
  • Pitman arm side tie rod end is a single plane design to eliminate unwanted drag link flop. Drastically simplifies installation and only allows necessary degree of movement.
  • No factory drag link components need to be reused.
  • Includes Synergy HD Metal on Metal Tie Rod Ends with a Single Plane version at the pitman arm side to completely eliminate Drag Link Flop.
  • Drag Link is CNC formed from 1.5 inch x .250 wall DOM tubing
  • Both ends of the bar use pinch bolts instead of jam nuts to simplify installation and adjustment
There are other aftermarket drag links, but I found these bullet points very interesting.

So you're saying that track bars with the same part numbers can be different one from another?

It's certainly NOT supposed to be that way, so if that's the case it's a failure at the supply chain and FCA needs to get that resolved. .
Reality. Parts have to be designed with enough tolerance both for the manufacturing process and the job they have to do. Parts get reved all the time to increase manufacturing yield due to under design.

We know 3 parts have gotten reved, not a surprise to any of us with shimmy.

Which 3 parts are you referring to? Steering box, track bar, and steering stabilizer? The power steering pump has had 2 new revisions. So that is at least 4. Any other steering or suspension related parts?

ya, thats the 3 we have heard of. Most complex products have a number of parts changes after release, normally you dont know or care, something about that 70 miles an hour and being unable to steer, makes us all finding out more than we had hoped to.

My shimmy is "gone" but I expect I am jsut on the edge of it returning, I am gonna shoot for a new trackbar anyway this turns out, even if jsut for my own piece of mind (either dealer replace with the new mopar, or I will pony down for a top quality aftermarket one.) Going to get new tires this week hopefully, so that should rule out and imbalance from them.

I watched the entire video. Very impressive. I'm surprised they didn't have the OEM drag link as one of the tested drag links. I wonder why? And any idea approximately how many miles at real world LBS load = 10,000 cycles at 3,000LBS load? To learn more, I called Steersmarts and my call went to voicemail and "the voicemail box is full" message occurred. Not good.

Since they didn't name any of the "Competitors" one of them could have been stock.

There is a brand new part number as of now - Link Rod. It goes into the pitman arm. #5 Below. Old number is 68258760 AB is now 68258760 AD. So that is at least 5 new steering related parts.

Wait. Who is paying for the parts and installation of these aftermarket parts?

If this is being paid for by Jeep, that would suggest FCA admits there is a problem and they have no solution other than to replace stock factory parts with aftermarket parts. Wow, that’s actually big news if true.
The dealership ordered everything - they / Jeep ordered all Fox and Rough Country aftermarket. They tried putting a Rough Country stabilizer on and told them no way, Fox or Falcon. the longer control arms and track bar could only fight them on so much.

Keep in mind - I have been fighting with FCA and Jeep going back months to last year. My first dealership experience culminated in the tech asking "why I didn't take my Jeep back to where I got it from" and asking "why I didn't buy it here" - this when I took it to a dealership closer to NYC.

Getting tired of waiting for a recall on the track bar and looking at replacing my OEM with an aftermarket one (I believe this is exactly what Mopar wants us all to do so they don't have to deal with any recalls).
So I'm looking at the Yeti XD Adjustable track bar or the Rancho adjustable track bar. Does anyone know if one is better then the other? Is there another one that is better then these two?
Thanks - Jim

That's the problem, I'm not affected by the recall because I don't have a recall against my Jeep, but yet I have a steering problem. So this leaves it up to the individual Jeep owners to resolve the issue on their own. Luckily my dealership acknowledge my loose steering and replaced the steering box, which helped with the loose steering, but now it seems to wonder more. They said they checked the track bar and it seemed fine so they could not replace it without being told to do so (like a recall).
I actually hear that replacing the LCAs with the Rubicons ones (they are about 1/4" longer then the sport and Sahara) will help with the wondering because it increases the caster, so I'll probably end up doing that along with a after market track bar
