Why is this even a discussion there is no bank or credit union that would give this guy a 20K loan much less over 40K. He doesn’t have enough income to qualify and his credit is in the toilet! Good luck unless your family is going to loan you all that money because that’s the only place you will get it!! This has to be a joke seriously??

Now that I know what you make I would definitely say forget about the Jeep for now. Yeah you've had bad luck with used vehicles but they are a bit older. I just looked it up and you can get a 5 year old Camry or Corolla for around 10K. They are both known for being extremely reliable and I think either would serve your family well. Sell the used cars and put the money somewhere else it can help you.

I'm assuming this is a troll.

If not a troll, it is clear that your impatience, and impulsive behavior is what got you in the mess that you are in now.

There is no benefit to living ghetto fabulous. What is ghetto fabulous? 65 inch TV but can't afford to pay the electic bill, fancy car but 3 months behind on your rent, $1000 Iphone but no service, etc. Live within your means.

Buy a cheap reliable car and straighten out your finances. I'd strongly suggest working on your decision making skills as well.

I think he should get the girlfriend and wife together and combine all their incomes and live together. Maybe they can make enough together to pay for a new loaded JLUR and maybe have enough left to make the rent in their trailer spot. Food stamps should help. I say: Live the American dream, Go For it!

...and thank you for keeping the economy of this great nation moving. This purchase keeps factory workers in a job as well as dealer and financial institution employees. When the time comes, the repo man has work, the extra hours at the financial institution is a boon to their business and finally, the used car dealer will have product to sell, where the process starts all over again. Meanwhile, fill that vehicle up with some babies from the ladies. This country needs more underacheivers to keep it moving.

Ok as I said I am not purchasing one on my income right now, I am just gathering the info needed, and I may make a little dollar amount but the hours I work stacks up pretty quick on my little income I made 40k just last year, I know it’s not a lot but it is and I’m in my situation because I took advice from people saying no don’t get a credit card don’t get a loan do this do that and your credit will rise, well then I got into a little trouble with my speeding and had to pay lots of money to fix all that and get out of trouble then I was trying to move from my apartment to a house and we couldn’t qualify so we got a credit card everything was great then my Jeep blew up and I was trying to fix it and ran dry between that and getting to work so the credit card got a little behind so that has been taken care of now I’m on the rise and trying to make my life better, i bout a used jimmy for 4K had under 100k miles on it and it got me a year of running and I had to replace all the balls hubs and drive shaft, heater core, radiator, pulleys battery water pump I mean literally this thing ate my money and t was in great condition it’s just my luck! I live a minimum life because I don’t need all that I don’t have tv I don’t have the newest iPhone or gaming system I don’t go out to dinner or eat fast food all the time I go to work and come home and spend my time with my family going out hiking or on a walk, now the decision making skills I couldn’t agree more lmao I have the hardest time actually making a decision I’m always on the fence because I see from both positive and negative standpoints and have a hard time weighing them, And a little Camry is that going to transport my family safe through the snows of Colorado lmao I’m fine driving anything I drove a eclipse in the snow for years but my gf with my kids is different she’s scared lol! And so again I ask what do you all do to afford yours?

Since you keep asking what we do to afford ours:

I drove used beaters around when I was starting out. They lasted a few years, I repaired them myself to save money. Then after some time doing that, and after moving up in my career, I bought my first new car. It was a base model. Then another base model later. Now 15 years + after that first new car, I ordered a vehicle for the first time, a 2018 JLUR.

The point is I had some patience, paid my bills on time, worked on my career to make more money, and waited until I could afford it. Try that out.

A Camry on a good set of snow tires will handle Colorado snow just fine. Way better off than the dudes in trucks with bald MTs I see everywhere in CO. A Camry (or Civic for that matter) will also be significantly safer in a car accident.

Yea I get that I just can’t help but feel that I’d be basically throwing money away? And ok what would I be missing out on with a sport instead of a rubicon? I know my payments were going to be high but I figured that would be in the 600 I would be ok with that just considering the insurance too wich is probably going to be outrageous, but 1000 plus insurance that’s to much, and the gas mileage I spend almost 40 a day in gas with what I was driving and people I carpool with want to charge anywhere from 20-40 a day to take me so the gas mileage will actually be saving me even at a measly 20 mpg. I know I probably sound so stupid and headstrong about it I just have been putting it in my head that I will do anything to make this vehicle happen for me and my family and just for someone else to have the ability to tell me know you can’t have it sucks and makes me want it more lmao don’t tell me I can’t have it!! Hahah I know I shouldn’t and I should work on getting more income but I would love to own one of these beautiful machines!!
You’ll be lucky if you get 18 MPG and as soon as you add a lift and tires that’s going look more like 15-16 MPG

I'm going to assume you're trolling, but let's say you are not. Considering your financial situation, why would you not get a stripped down 2 door for cheap if you're so set on a new vehicle rather then a Rubicon? You need to get your priorities in order. I'd strongly suggest to do everything you can to get your credit up as you won't be getting any loans with a 500 credit score. Not a reasonable loan at least.

First you need to fix your credit. Pay your bills on time, in full. Debt gets you nowhere. I'd assume that most of us here have little to no debt, which helps us afford our rides. Secondly, no one just gives you a raise. You think you deserve it? Prove it. Ask for it. Make a case for why you're valuable to the company. If that gets you to where you need to be, that's great. If not, I suggest you find higher paying work, and stick to it. Seems like you have several cars that are all money pits. Sell them, scrap them, get what you can out of them and move on. Take a look at this list: https://www.nydailynews.com/autos/b...el-drive-winter-cars-10-000-article-1.2034688. If you truly NEED to invest in a reliable winter vehicle, that's your best bet. Pay as much as you can in cash and drive it for several years to come. A 2019 Rubicon does not, by any means, fit your current situation. But that's not to say that you can't work your way up to it. As others have said, good things come to those who wait. Best of luck to you.

Oh, and punctuate your sentences.

This thread is like a bad TV show that I am somehow hooked into watching week after week. I should just turn it off but I gotta see how it ends.

How did I get ahead?

Cliff notes:

I did not grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth

My first car was a $2000 Suzuki swift which I saved for from the time I was a kid until I was 17. It had a million problems and probably shouldn't have been on the road but I made it work.

When it was too broken to drive, I used my mom's car to get to school and such.

Through college I lived at home. I qualified for many grants and scholarships. I lived very frugal and saved the additional money from the grants and scholarships. During my senior year in college I saved up enough for a solid downpayment on a new Chevy Silverado extended cab base model. I spent months working for the best price, and I ended up getting a 24k MSRP truck for $16K. With this truck the payments were only $140 a month.

After graduation. I continued to live at home and paid off the truck and all student loans my first year of working.

By doing this I started my adult life off debt free. I continued to live below my means and save. This permitted to by a home mortgage free and vehicles of my choice payment free.

There is really no miracle get nice things quick plan. Either you make solid choices and work hard, have rich parents, dedicate yourself to a life of crime, or win the lotto.

It seriously was a huge ramble in this thread. I see the wide-eyes of the OP, but the income of a pauper.

I'd get a used Subaru for 4wheel drive, Crosstrek or Outback - 3 years off lease will get you in the 15k range or less and that is a VERY manageable payment in your situation. With the super bad credit, I'd ditch everyone of your vehicles, which seem to be numerous - and pay down other credit issues. You'd have to get a co-signer for even the used Subaru or the interest a @20 would just eat you alive.

Honestly, I just don't see a Wrangler for 3 years out for you and at that point the used and lease market should open up options. Sorry, that's the practical guy in me that despises debt.
