Lately my back window has started to rattle. I got in the back and pushed it out while the Mrs. was driving and the window stopped rattling. I don't know if this is a coincidence but it seems to have started when I put the Rubicon rims/tires on our Sahara, i.e. the spare tire is now a bit heavier.
It could also be that from usage everything has loosened up a bit.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I plan on removing the tire and seeing if noise goes away as well as seeing if the latch can be adjusted, however it's already a pretty firm pull to pop the latch.

Hi there I am having this issue as well. I am a Sahara with stock 18” rims and GY ATA tires. Pushing right in the center of the rear glass seems to stop it. Is there where you pushyl stop yours as well? Thanks!

Had to go to the dealer for a couple of things I had noticed on the Jeep. While there I told them about it and we were able to reproduce it on a test drive so he knew what was going on. He said they adjusted the tailgate a little and put some heavy duty silicon silicon spray designed for rubber seals on the seal at the bottom of the window. voila... no more rattle :)
If you have a good dealer with a good service dept, they won't squawk at doing warranty work like this.

I am having this issue with the rear driver side window on my soft top. I went to the dealer and they replaced the plastic door trim for the soft top on the driver side. Problem has lessened but still there.

What exactly did your dealer do to stop it?

They did exactly what I said in the post :)... lol. Sorry couldn't resist.

We have two different problems, I have a hard top and mine was the glass rear window rattling against the tail gate. Since you have a soft top I don't know what your issue could be. Since they replaced the plastic door trim and it helped see if they can look around that area (or you could) for minor adjustments. They would have access to the silicone spray I mention so maybe that could be used as well.

Yeah, reading back it was silly but I was kinda think more of how and where they applied the silicon spray. But it doesn't matter anyway since I also didn't realize you were talking about the hardtop. Thanks anyway though!

I started having this with my 2018 JLU Sahara shortly after I bought i in September. For me, it was a rattle / creak. At first I thought it was something I had rattling around in the cargo area. After eliminating anything like that, I complained about it when I got my first oil change in December. The tech at the CDJR dealer diagnosed it as the seal on the back window and said a new seal needed to be ordered. It took a month, and they finally got the new seal in stock. I took it in for the repair yesterday morning, but I received a call in the afternoon that after attempting the repair, and communicating with Chrysler, the entire back window needs to be replaced!

Have any of you run into this?

Many here, have experienced the creak/rattle sound you seem to have on your JL.

For most, the fix was to lubricate the rear hatch window gasket. Some have used silicone, I used bulb grease. I found the silicone only did the job for a week or two... the bulb grease I applied has been doing the job for months now. ( I applied a coating of bulb grease and then wiped the grease off.... the residue that was left embedded in the gasket prevents the creak. ) I told my local dealer tech about the bulb grease trick and he is using this trick on JL's that come in with the "creak" . 8-)

My guess is your dealership tech damaged the gasket on your JL or whatever. FCA has been telling dealer's to replace the rear window versus doing any work on it to include, refastening wires that come off from the window, defective wiper motor, etc..

Note: IF a rear tailgate has a metal to metal rattle/noise, there are two mechanical adjustments that can be made on the tail gate in regard to the latch and the plastic latch slide.

Thanks for the reply and the suggestion to use bulb grease. It's not a metal to metal noise. I'm going to inspect the back window and rear hatch this morning and see if I can see any damage to the gasket. If it's still servicable, I'll pick up some bulb grease and give that a try. The service manager who gave me the paperwork and my key fob back seamed to indicate that they had some confusion over the part due to differences between soft and hard tops. That sounded odd (to me anyway).

Look closely at the large gasket along the bottom of hatch window. You will notice a very deep part of the gasket.... that deep part is where say a 1/4" of your painted rear tailgate's upper edge goes into. It is there where you need to use the bulb grease. Do all the way across ...apply in that deep part. After you get it applied wipe off the heavy stuff so, down the road you do not lean against it.... get it on your clothes. etc.

I used silicone spray, that was advised in another post. I sprayed it on a rag and wiped it on the seals all the way around the seals. Fixed the issue. I reapply about once a month.

Wow talk about a tech having no idea what he is doing. All you need is silicon spray or grease. The spray doesn't last as long. I believe the culprit is the gasket on the edge of the window but I put the stuff below on all gaskets and wiped off the excess... viola... no noise. Stuff is amazing, can use it on brake calipers, etc...

Thanks for the bulb grease tip. I have been using pure silicon and while it works better/longer than the spray it does need replacing.

Apply fairly thick and work it in.... then, wipe off the excess. There will be a little sheen but nothing transferable to clothes, etc..

I have been using it for say six months. I did reapply after 3 months just to lets say ace my bet.. Anyway, no creak or rattle for 6 months and 12,000+ miles.

After two weeks of ownership, mine developed said rattle. Applied liberal amount of the sil-glyde and seems to have done the trick. Thanks for the heads up!
