The Moab Package (24M) is a great deal unless you're planning on spending a fair amount of time in off-roading pursuits, especially extreme rock crawling. That fact has been established within a number of other threads. I ordered the Moab package because it checked off all of my boxes and rock crawling was not one of them. It wasn't until after I'd given my salesman my ordering deposit that I figured out just how great of a deal it is.

Let's crunch some numbers. Using the updated (as of Feb 06, 2019) "Customer Preferred Code Guide" we can price out most of the features that come within Pkg 24M, including black aluminum wheels ($995), Selec-Trac 4WD ($595), 8.4" Nav Radio w/ Alpine Premium Audio ($1595), anti-spin rear diff ($595), body color 3-pc hardtop ($2195), hardtop headliner group ($525), heavy duty rock sliders w/ step assist ($975), LED lighting group ($995), remote proximity keyless entry ($495), all weather floor mats ($150), leather seating group ($1495) plus the Rubicon front steel bumper ($740)* for a grand total of $11,350. Compare that to Pkg 24m's MSRP of $10,905 and you've saved $445, but wait - there's more! We haven't factored in the Rubicon hood (probably the sexiest piece of sheet metal found anywhere on any JL -IMO), the BFG KM2 M/T tires (love 'em or hate'em - they're certainly more tire than the A/T's available on the Sahara) and finally the Rubicon shocks and springs. All in, I think it would be very reasonable to say that the Moab owner is getting an extra grand or more (@MSRP) of value in comparison to adding all of these options to a Sahara if you could. Any thoughts pro or con?

* When purchasing both the front and rear Rubicon bumpers from Mopar, the front bumper accounts for 57% of the total; .57 x $1295 (Price of Rubicon Steel Bumper Group in Ordering Guide) = $740

Are you asking a serious question or just validating your decision?
I'm happy with my decision based upon my past and anticipated driving habits. Over the last few years I've not seen many option package discounts like I used to see 15 or so years ago. In fact, more often than not, it seems that it's somewhat difficult to justify the value of many option packages you see these days.

The black aluminum wheels on the Moab are not "premium". They are the default wheels on Rubicons, just all black instead of machine face. Actually, I never understood what "premium" wheels offer for the extra $995 other than an alternate design.

I wasn't really comparing the Moab wheels to the Rubi wheels but rather to the stock Sahara aluminum wheels, but I can definitely relate to your alternate style reasoning.

Your post is a great summary of why the MOAB pkg is a good deal. You also tried to keep the negative @ss opinions away from your post by telling us how you don’t need that rock crawling box checked. Good job in presenting the pros of the MOAB pkg in a concise manner.
The MOAB pkg is a good deal. Line item mfg cost for line item for line item it is a good deal.
What people who read your post will want to argue is the rubicon is > than... a sport built by hand, spending xxxx dollars is > than, the Moab is > than... wtfever.
End of the day, a Range Rover will ride more luxuriously than what ever. A corvette will have more acceleration than whatever. A helicopter can go higher in the air than either. A sport is a better idea because of whatever. A rubi is better because of whatever. Blah, blah, blah.
ALL wranglers are stupid capable off the lot compared to pretty much everything.
The MOAB kit has a lot of cool $hit at a discount vs. buying it off the mopar shelf after the fact.
You like the way the wrangler you got looks, you like the options, you feel like you got a great deal. That’s the deal. So, you got a great wrangler and sounds like it will make you happy - that is AWESOME!
For anyone that hi-jacks your thread ask them if they are wiling to make the monthly payment for you. IF you find that person please send them my way because I will drive wtfever they ‘prefer’ if they are willing to pay Jeep and State Farm every month for me to drive it.
Great post!

Ok, listen if you like it buy it.
Now the Moab looks cool but look at the bigger picture it's a Sahara no matter what tires and stickers they put on it. Did they add 15k worth of upgrades!!!!!!!! Your decision

Lemme soap box for a few more mins. I got what i wanted, could afford, etc, etc, etc. I do not give a #uck to explain to anyone why I got what i wanted. If I want to mall crawl wth a Rubi so what its mine i pay for it. If i want to build a sport from the ground up that will outperform a stock rubi so what i got what i wanted. If i prefer a Sahara or MOAB and i got what i want GREAT! I don’t care why you got what you got, the stories are interesting, but ill be damn if I am going to judge you on the internet for your preference just because its not what i like or feel like arguing with a random stranger about.
I started an account here because of the wrangler community because i had always heard about how awesome it is. So far I agree most of the time. I am glad i became part of the community most of the time. When i run into people who like jeeping because Jeep it makes me smile. When i run into people who have opinions that they use to justify why someone is stupid, not as awesome as them, have a smaller Johnson because you don’t agree with them, etc. it just reminds me that what ever the #uck they think A. No one needs their approval B. None of them are willing to electronically transfer funds to Jeep in my name sooooo... #uck em i am going enjoy what I got, doing what the h3ll ever i want to do with it because well.. i pay for it.
/endrant
Made myself laugh though. Ill stop now :)

I was trying to decide between a Moab and Rubicon JLU to replace my 2012 AEV Rubicon JK. I ran the same numbers as you.

It really all boils down to if everything in the packages that either offer is what you want. Lots of the Moab package I wanted, but the color matched roof would have pushed me to a Granite or Grey and not a Red.

My conclusion on the same numbers was that the Moab package was reasonable for the options but not a screaming bargain, and fitting out a Rubi exactly as close as possible to a Moab got you a vehicle that cost several thousand more assuming you got similar painted options and leather, but also had lockers, sway disco, gears, rear steel and tires the moab didn't.

All in all, you get what appeals to you and finances allow. The Rubi with almost all the options except painted hard top in Red was what floated my boat and I couldn't be happier.

Also, the power top is only $1900 vs. $3995.

For me it was kind of a no-brainer.

I was looking at getting a Sahara for awhile (never felt the need to bump up to a Rubicon). I wanted one loaded with almost every option available. Was close to pulling the trigger on one, then along came the Moab. It includes all the options I wanted anyway, plus they blacked [almost] everything out, which is more my taste, and added some Rubicon-style parts and other upgrades but didn't really cost any more (I ran the numbers myself but don't recall exactly how it came out). Shut up and take my money!!!

Agree with all the posts. I was going to the dealer to buy a rubicon and saw a Moab on the lot and chose the Moab instead. My previous truck (ram powerwagon) had diff lockers and sway disconnect and never used them once. I don’t Rock crawl and figured i would prefer a more comfortable jeep (leather, sahara ride). Also since it comes with most of the goodies already your at a good starting point for modding. You also don’t see many Moab’s on the street being that is a special edition. Rubicons are everywhere. Screw the haters and get what you want.

Not the same wheels as Rubicons. I agree they aren’t “premium” but they aren’t the same and they are better looking, IMO.
