According to Kelly Blue Book:

Trade in value is approx. $11,300 to $13,500

Private party sale value is approx. $12,200 to $14,600

So for me, that dealer would need to come off that price about $4,000 to $5,000 at least. Factor in wheel and top replacement cost. If you finance he’ll be making interest off you too.

I bought a stock TJ (2003) with 130k miles for 8,900 back in 2019.

The lack of half doors makes it a no go to me.

$30K for an LJ? Good luck. The market there is apparently F'd. I found one where I live this week with ~75K miles and nice, for 16K.
Yup, to be fair it’s a specialty restoration shop and they are generally bringing in good looking shape. I’d imagine they have some negotiating room as well. But I was surprised by the price when I had emailed them about one. Obviously it didn’t spark interest for me to continue the conversation. But they seem to move them for the most part, so someone is buying them.

Just goes to show that a rising tide floats all ships.
Very nice LJs with under 100k miles go for $25k or so here. If one shows up for sale for less and is close to stock or mildly modded, it sells fast to a dealer who flips them.

Higher miles and/or over modded, mid teens. Over 200k, straight to the auction and second chance credit/buy here pay here lots. But that goes for any Jeep YJ or newer.

UPDATE: Just got back from the test drive, couldn't get the top off, zippers hard to undo, couldn't get the flaps on the side to come undone, stereo had a speaker that didn't work, weather stripping in front window coming up and some dry rot underneath... Dealer said they would fix it all but would add on to the sales price if they did that  I Walked

In that case it’s worth about 9k. Needs a new top, new stereo and speakers (time to upgrade), still needs half doors though.
