So I walked into a dealer in Denver and they said that the Moab will only come in the V 6, not the turbo, and you can get the one touch power top.

The manager also said he just got back from a regional FCA meeting and the pickup Scrambler and the PHEV electric version of the scrambler will land in Q3 / Q4 of 2019.

I’m hoping he is wrong because I really want the PHEV fro the rubicon. Im in a real debate about getting a turbo with standard transmission, the last of a internal combustion standards to keep for 10 years, or to wait for the PHEV that will drive all electric for 20-30 miles.
Michael: While I love my Moab, you are in an interesting position there in Colorado. Because traditional naturally aspirated engines lose 3% of their power per 1k feet of elevation, you may want to consider the turbo in order to get the full power for the vehicle. Especially if you ever drive in towards the mountains from Denver. Unfortunately this means the Moab may not be an option for you, but I'd hate to see you end up with a vehicle which loses its power based on where you live.

The Scrambler is scheduled to begin production in April, so even if it's slightly delayed I think you'll start seeing them in showrooms in Q3. Sounds like they may be moving up production of the PHEV based on what you heard. I am personally somewhat skeptical of an all-electric Wrangler, but I'm definitely willing to be proven wrong. Jeep has demonstrated with the turbo i4 that they won't put an engine in a Jeep which waters down its ability. Hopefully this holds true with the PHEV.

There has been no confirmation of a standard transmission option with either the 2.0 gas turbo or the 3.0 diesel turbo, so your debate may be a short one. Sadly, I doubt those engines will ever see a factory manual transmission because it doesn't make economic sense. Why would Jeep make the large investment required to support a manual transmission on those high-torque engines when the vast majority of buyers don't want to stir their own gears?

The Wrangler PHEV is a very interesting concept, and one that would solve most of the on-road issues I have with my Wrangler, namely pitiful fuel mileage and high pollution levels. On the other hand, I see several potential problems there:
  • I don't think I would want to be an early adopter of the PHEV, because I'd want to wait and see how well it stands up to real-world off-road abuse before I take one way out in the boonies on a nasty trail. Imagine having a breakdown 20 miles or more from the nearest slab of pavement: who would be able to fix your rig and get it moving again? Not your average small-town or DIY mechanic, I'd wager.
  • I wonder how well the PHEV will support significantly oversized tires. Will it be able to crank them over big, nasty boulders on steep trails? Will your all-electric on-road range be significantly reduced? Hmmm....
  • Finally, I expect the plug-in hybrid to be a very pricey option that will easily push the MSRP of a decently-equipped JLUR north of $55K. I just can't see spending that kind of coin on a Wrangler, no matter how nice it is.
Money issues aside, I definitely wouldn't buy the first model year of the PHEV myself. I'll be very interested to see how it pans out, though, and how well it sells.

I saw one just like the below at Koons the other day (maybe that is your dealer?). I thought it looked great and the performance rock rails are nice with a good non-slip coating (like bedliner) on them. To be honest, if I didn't have my JLUR price locked in from February I would probably be ordering a Moab. Anyways, I am posting here because seeing the Moab in person has finalized my decision to buy these performance rock rails for our Rubicon. My 6 year old Son was able to easily get himself up using these as a step and that is a key factor, the look is nice (hiding the pinch seam) and they felt very durable. I know they cost more than other rock rails / side step options, but it doesn't detract from the nice appearance, functionality and perceived quality of these rails.

I had the same question about the rock rail/side steps. My dealer sent me some pics of a 2018 Moab he has on his lot. Hope this helps.

Can’t find an Ocean Blue Moab that’s been delivered anywhere to get pics from, but I’ve found about three in transit now that I’m watching. One is right near me in Bradenton. If it lands I’ll see if I can get some pics.

My dealer is Criswell in Gaithersburg. I think they look great as well. I was wondering if they were slippery, so thanks for letting me know.

PITA...they don’t show up on Jeep site search. I’ve basically just been google searching “Blue Moab 24M” (tried a few combos and that seems to be highest yield). Pulling up links from individual dealer sites. Lots of whites, blacks, granites, and silvers on the ground. I’ve found everything but HellaYella and Ocean Blue at this point.

Oh wow, that works...I finally was able to find a Moab near me. Will be test driving this weekend for sure (if it's not gone by then).
