Folks. Did you notice that the order guide released on Oct. 4 changes the MMU option, (which is included in the MOAB package) from MOPAR heavy duty rock rails to the heavy duty rock rails with step assist?
What's the difference? (Trying to search to find examples.......)

Don't believe this forum page helps, their thoughts seem to point towards a much more expensive option?

Not sure, but the additional description adding the step assist can't be just the fact that the heavy duty rock rails stick out a little more than the regular rubicon rock rails, or is it just that? Step assist with other types of rock rails/sliders usually includes a step that is really a step. Hey, what do I know. I just noticed the difference in the description and would like to know what it really means. Will find out soon anyway.

Not sure if this means anything, but notice that it has the same part code (MMU) in both the Sept order form that does not mention steps, and the October order form that does. Additionally, I just checked my build sheet from my 2018 Moab (which definitely does NOT have a second step below the rails), and my build sheet shows code MMUP. Not sure if that's a separate part or just a different code for the same part used on the order sheet and the build sheet.

I'm very interested in this step assist that is mentioned, especially if it is a new part that replaces the 2 options previously (rock rail and performance rock rail). I still have my 2018 on order (JLUR), but I am looking into a mopar step, and would prefer to avoid the plastic ones if possible, but I was concerned the performance rock rails wouldn't stick out far enough for my son / wife.

To stay on topic with this thread, in addition to the potential rock rails on the 2019 MOAB, I also like the look of the Moab and, if I wasn't locked into February 2018 pricing on my order (cloned turbo order, added power top in June so still waiting), I would definitely considering ordering one.

ugh!! i ordered...well the dealer placed my order for a Mojito Rubicon the day before Jeep shut off orders. now he tells me it was kicked back so he needs to order again. but now the means I'm gonna get the 3.6 with the BSG . which i don't think i want. Anyways i saw a Moab at the dealership, and honestly if it came with the red leather sticking and the stock Rubicon wheels i would get it, since the only add on i would need would be cold weather group. with the MOAB Pkg ....what to do..what to do!!
need to see a Mojito Moab to help make my decision

You can get those seats from Katzkin aftermarket, but without the Rubicon logo. As far as the wheels, you will find many, many Rubicon owners who would be happy to swap you, or you could buy the Rubi wheels (as take offs) and sell the black ones, probably at a profit early on.

If you look closely at the Granite Moab window sticker in this thread from yesterday you can see the part description says Mopar Heavy Duty Rock Rails with Step Assist as part of the Moab pkg. You can see these rock rails in the pictures. They are wider than the standard Rubicon rock rails and are wide enough to be used as a step as well. These are the same rock rails on both 2018s & 2019s they just changed the description slightly. Probably to help differentiate these from the Rubicon rock rails which are too skinny to be used as a step for most people.

I had the same question about the rock rail/side steps. My dealer sent me some pics of a 2018 Moab he has on his lot. Hope this helps.

Well that was excellent detective work and sure answers the question. Thanks

Has anyone added lift to a Moab yet? Really like these but my plan is 37’s and a lift. Not sure the Moab is the right vehicle for it. May have to stay w a Rubi.

Plenty of lifted Saharas out there. Same platform, so I don't see why this would be a problem. If you're worried about the actual running gear (axles, ratios, lockers, etc) for heavy wheeling, then maybe the Rubi is a better choice so you won't have to upgrade the major components.

With a Rubi I can do a simple 2” or 2 1/2” spacer lift for around $400. I am guessing but w the Moab (Sahara) I would have to do a “real” 3” lift to fit the tires in wo rubbing issues. Cost would be much higher for that. Heavy wheeling is not in my future. Beach or light trails but no boulders requiring lockers.

Now that you have had it almost a month. Have you made any modifications? What would you like to change?
Yes, two (and they're minor)
1. The antennae is an old school tall metal one that flaps in your field of vision all the time (it's in front of the passenger door). Change it to a more aggressive and shorter (thick plastic black). Looks much better. They're approx $20 online and take under 3 minutes to change.
2. Disappointed that the Mopar all weather mats didn't include one for the rear storage area. So I picked one up from Weathertech, but annoyed I had to spend the $100.

Other than that, love it! It's been an unseasonably warm autumn so I've gotten plenty of top-off driving. Did my first real trail ride, and the Moab handled it like a beast. I was able to climb a 4-ft waterfall, and the only modification to my Jeep was that I had aired down the tires to about 25 psi (I have video, PM me if anyone wants to see it). Speaking of which for anyone who does plan to eventually go offroad, you may also want to pick up a portable air compressor (so you can air back up afterwards for the drive home).

For any Moab owners (or any JL owners for that matter), note that you are able to life the Jeep 2.5", but anything more than that will void your warranty! I don't plan to for now, because the Moab looks badass and aggressive with the 32" mud tires and steel bumper. But if the Jeep was raised, those tires would look a lot smaller. So my current plan is to drive it as-is until these tires wear out, then think about buying new ones and lifting the Jeep then. But that will be a few years.
