considering getting a JL sport, not sure if maintenance and repair will stack the cost.

Zero problems here at 600 miles. If I were you looking on the lot. Check for a late MFG date. Mine was July 2018.

It;s not going to be a toyota but I expect it to be reasonably reliable. Its a cash cow for FCA and they would be insane to not have a sharp eye on quality and durability.

Before purchase I read up on the 3.6 and it seems to have a stellar record. The first ones had some issues, but FCA stepped up and fixed them and it has been solid ever since. So motor-GREAT

Tranny. I was worried about a new 8 speed but they have been out for a while in other vehicles evidently and it also has a pretty good reputation.

SO whats left is the other stuff like electronics and build quality. Time will tell. So far there are patterns with steering but not much else that I recall. Just one off stuff like shift linkage, my ESS, probably more.

Like I said in another thread. Go to the dealers service center and see how many JL's are brought in. It's not scientific since some could be brought in for oil changes, but if you see a lot maybe somethings going on. I didnt see many at all when I checked it out and they are selling a LOT of these things.

Well, maintenance is as inexpensive as it possibly can get. 5 quarts of oil and a drop in filter. $30 total at Walmart. Do it every 5-8k miles. The transmission is not "serviceable". The axles have drain plugs and fill plugs. It's childsplay.

Repair is also as inexpensive as it can get. Everything on Wrangler is stone age simple to access and repair. And, these vehicles are usually extremely reliable. I have almost 6,000 miles on mine so far and it's been flawless except for the steering issue which was easily resolved with a software update.

Personally I feel QC should definitely be better. It's a FCA product. FCA products are rated at the bottom of every automotive quality, customer satisfaction survey. JD Powers, Consumer Reports, etc. rate FCA brands poorly. You definitely will not be getting Lexus quality control and reliability. The good news is FCA is making strides in improving QC. There are definitely owners who have very little to no issues. QC will only improve as the early production kinks get worked out.

The Wrangler is definitely a lot of fun. I mean really fun. That makes the risk bearable for me when it's under warranty. You will not have to worry about paying repairs while you are under warranty. It's bumper-bumper for 36 months and 36,000 miles. Then there is a power train warranty to 50K miles. You can also buy a bumper to bumper Lifetime Warranty if you plan on keeping your Wrangler longer. Cost for the Lifetime Warranty with $100 deductable is around $2800. You can shop it around.

Maintenance is reasonable, like any other domestic car.

Definitely go test drive a few. I think you will find owning a Wrangler is worth it.

It has a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty to cover anything that would be attributed to the ‘new’ JL (it’s hardly an all-new model).

I totally agree about the maintenance. It is very reasonable for routine service like basic oil changes. I don't know about the JL being stone age simple anymore? The JLs have a lot more technology and more is being implemented in the future. The 2.0 e-Torque added some complexity for sure. It's all new so there are no baselines for cost yet. Thankfully there are options like the Lifetime Warranty for anyone who wants it.

A stock JL or JLU Sport is practically bulletproof - 3.6, manual, and it's not over-burdened with (IMO) the mostly useless "gee whiz" features on the other models.
