Respectfully disagree. As we used to say in my job: "Mission first, safety always." Yes, we do want to use our vehicles like we want and we accept some compromises. However, if we can still do those fun things and do them in a safer manner, I'll always (mostly?) choose that way. Putting my cell phone on a safer location than in front of an airbag does not impede my trail ability so I choose that option. Choosing a lift kit to fit my big tires involved researching the reputation of the kit on the highway along with its trail performance. My TJ took a weight penalty from the additional cage I installed to protect my kids in the back seat.

Everything is a tradeoff but safety shouldn't be ignored. If you've ever had your wide-eyed daughter smiling at you while driving on the edge of a cliff, I think you'd understand my philosophy. If you've ever had that daughter freak out while sitting upside down in a 4x4 because you relaxed a little too much while having fun, that would help you understand my priorities.
Ok. You are free to disagree. Bottom line is I move the TWO items to the back of the passenger seat and clip them to the area where maps go on the occasion that I have a passenger.

I know I should leave this be. But.
It SEEMS to me that some jeep folk take unnecessary risks in the name of fun (ending upside down with passengers being a risk?). That is their choice, and I am fine with it as long as I'm not riding with them or in their path. It simply humors me that I'm questioned concerning my choice based upon "safety" in reference to a jeep that I've managed to keep right side up.

Respectfully, I'm aware of safety. Was part of my job. I believe in strapping down any heavy-ish items being carried that could be caught up in "secondary impact" situation. Throwback to military aviation. Wear safety glasses more often than not - as my dad was blind in one eye due to accident. Don't modify vehicles because I really don't care what the equipment reviews say. Engineers designed the vehicles. I feel a little more secure in vehicle engineers idea of center of gravity studies, etc. than I do in opinions.

While the console tray is fine, I'd advise anyone against the grab bar tray. If the airbag goes off, stuff there will become shrapnel.
Only if it sticks up - which they would. Airbag comes out of the center of that panel on the JL, anyway.

I guess I'm the only one that just hangs them on the latch for the windshield header/hard top clamp.

I had my turbo button get stuck on start mode after 3 months of storage and it was due to a bad gas mix, I filled it up with some prime gas before I started her up and that seemed to clear it right out.
I'd have to say the best scenery I've come across was on the White Rim Trail in Utah, where the views of the Colorado River snaking its way through the canyon below are just breathtaking. We had just set up camp after a long day of rock crawling and the sun was setting, casting that golden glow - it was pretty surreal.
Is it random thoughts day again?

Same. And glue a tiny rare earth magnet on the back side that sticks to the wire frame of my sunglasses to keep them put.

i'd never put anything i valued more than a plastic duck on the dashboard; it wouldn't last long in the sunny West.

my glasses (i carry several pair for different things) live in their cases in the center console. isn't that what it's for?
there, they're protected, out of sight, and i can find any of them (even while driving) by feel.

It all depends.
I hang 2 items on grab bar as I very seldom have passengers. Mom was the main one. She passed. When she rode, I hung them over the back pocket of passenger seat. When no one is in passenger seat, I have easy access to my necessities.
It all depends....

They are no less than 3 storage spots and you want to invent one up by the windshield? My wife is a sunglass snob and hers live in the glovebox. Might I suggest the pocket behind the passenger seat? Easily in reach.

Fair enough.
Center console. Spare $, Dust mask, Gloves, Multitool, dental floss, meshcore, pen, notepad, flash light.... No glasses for me there. Heat can be an issue for sure in a vehicle period. I vent JLU because of that.

$ can go in the upper section of the lid. (there's even a little 'secret' compartment up there that works if it's just "emergency $" to which you don't need frequent access.)
dust mask i don't have, but the N95s go in a baggie in the 'glove box' along with the late gloves.
personally, my (work) gloves live next to the Drivers seat brkt (don't want what gets on work gloves near anything else or coming any further into the J**p).
multi-tool; if i need something more than what i already have in my pocket, it's in the regular Glove Box.
Dental Floss; good call, but it doesn't take up enough room that i can't fit it in the upper storage in the center console lid. (i've also got lip balm and other stuff up there; Dez life, y'know?)
Meshcore; i'm out, but if i need something to be able to use for comms, i would want it more accessible than in a box. (that said, i realize i sometimes have one of my mini handheld transceivers in the console when i'm not using it,.. usually a TH-F6a.)
pens; also in the lid, glove box, or other places. depends on how often they're needed (which for me is not often, though carry a Sharpie to be able to record everything from license plates to vital signs in the event of an accident when i might need to write on whatever or whoever is available nearby).
flashlights live on brkts next to the seat brkt by the doors where they're easily accessible from outside (where i'm most likely to need them).

that leaves me room for binoculars, toll transponders, and other stuff.
it's all about how we organize what we prioritize, i guess.

Hand held ham radio is one of the 2 items hanging on hand rail... lololol
I don't think my jeep has that secret compartment in center console. I've not found it anyway.... lol I mean there are 2 compartments though. The glove box has the manual, insurance papers etc. Not a lot of room.
Yes on prioritization. That's why glasses/sunglasses and hand held are hanging on hand rail bulk of the time. I'm tall enough to reach them! Lol
