I’m working on a solo setup to sleep in the jeep using the jeep deep sleep. I’d also like a smaller/easier tent when it’s the kid and I. This has been a great tent but it’s to big and the rain fly is a pain.

ideally if I was solo I’d like to have a Ursa Minor pop top.

This was the old set up, but it didn’t like going off-road, it was easy to high-center on anything much bigger than a speed bump and, during covid, people were willing to pay 30% more than we bought it for three years earlier, so we sold it. (The new coach is a mini-super-c built on an F600. It’s undergoing a single-wheel conversion and suspension upgrade. Should be done by Christmas.)

I'm looking at your set up compared to mine and I'm thinking I didn't do very well in life.

You’re probably just smarter and more discerning.This is a stupid way to spend money, especially for somebody with my modest net worth. If it was just me, I would have bought an F450 and another pickup camper, but my wife loves the RV gig, and I don’t want to go places where I can’t pull my jeep, so our options were quickly constrained. If we get 6 or 7 years of travel out of it and sell it for 60% of what we paid I’ll consider it a win.

My brother and smarter friends regularly point out that we could have paid for a lot of hotel rooms for what this will cost us, but after working homicide for a long time, I’m not fond of hotels… As they say, you pays your money, and you rolls the dice!”

No dual wheel option for the rear?

It came with duals, but I needed much more height to get where we like to go, so it’s lifted with electronically controlled live-valve suspension. Now it drives like my F350. (We needed most of the additional height just to get up our driveway, but I also wanted the singles to work through the mud and sand in 4-wheel drive.)

The tires are 41” Michelins. They‘re rated at 7400 pounds per tire, so they get us to within about 600 pounds of the max rear axel rating, which we don’t plan to test. If we went with the 43s the tire capacity would have more than matched GVWR, but that would have required other tradeoffs we didn’t want.

You’ve made several smart decisions here. The area in front of the chair appears to be clear of pointy objects. Plenty of middle of the night hydration available from that last swig you left in the cans within arms reach if you were to regain consciousness. Sleeping face down gives you ability to pee with minimal movement. Brunch at the crack of noon is already cooked and ready to go on the grill.

Very nice setup. Pretty much my camping goals.

I’m on my starter camper, with my old ‘90 F250. My truck is basically maxed out, fully loaded I was 60lbs under GVWR. Not sure I could even flat tow my Jeep. It may tow it but it would be slow.
