I am right there with ya, My wife laughs when something breaks and says " He will either fix it or make it so bad it needs to be replaced". She's right, Been an Engineer for many years.
If you can't fix it with a hammer you've got an electrical problem...

Wow... Lots of responses in a short time.
I'm a retired two-way radio, computer, and telecom geek.
Not really "Jeepy" unless you consider the drives up Stone Mountain to maintain/repair Dekalb County's radio transmitters. Although, to be fair, we used a 4WD F100.
Did that for ten years, then worked for the power company for 30 more.
Also a gearhead, as a hobby.

Old computer geek that ended up running large technology support/service teams for many years until US companies decided customer service isn't that important and moved most of that function overseas.

The first windows version I supported was windows 3.1. I did unix development for a while, redhat was my jam. Now I mostly administrate applications, test & work with developers & a ton of sql database stuff. Looking forward to normal hours maybe, I tell the wife Im going to be a paint shaker at the hardware store.
I was administering DOS/Novell netwoks when Windows 3.0 came out. We had a couple DEC Vax computers on the network too. And a Sun workstation or two. Got out of networking shortly after that and went into engineering.

if I would come back for a few months to finish some projects I was working on
I wanted to be able to do that but my employer downsized and eliminated my position. Since they basically pulled the rug out from under me I didn't feel guilty about anything that wasn't finished.

You're forgetting duct tape...
...and baling wire. I carry a roll of it on the trail. But, I guess zip ties have replaced it for the most part, unless it's a hot part like exhaust.

I gave my boss a year's notice before I retired. They hired a "rocket scientist" to replace me. My replacement used to be a propulsion engineer on the Shuttle at the Cape. He was way smarter than me. I used to get phone calls for the first year or so. 'Makes you feel "loved" 🤣 .
