You are probably right hence the "kidnapped" word, but you know how it is when you are pissed off. It just "feels" better to jump to conclusions. It is still married to the Jeep, so it is good to know that it cannot be used elsewhere.
It definitely can be used elsewhere. They'd just need an unmarry key. https://www.zautomotive.com/product/unmarry-key/.

If you didn't have the SGW extension cable and someone stole it then it's bizarre that they went through the (literal) pain to reconnect everything.

I didn't have the extension cable, and it sucks that they can unmarry it, but I hope they cramped their hand up getting it out! :CWL:

Instructions say you can disconnect when ignition is off and reconnect later without unmarry. Outside of redoing wiring harness to hide it In a better location, just unplug and pocket it with you.
When you disconnect it, you have to reconnect the SGW or another OBD2 reader on a 12+8 cable... Otherwise, there's a lot of wonkiness such as the dash not lighting up etc. At least, that's my personal experience. But that's why you get the extension that was previously mentioned and the OP just acquired.

The un-marry process requires interaction with ZAuto though - so if they're as good as everyone indicates they are about customer service, I would expect that reaching out to them can be beneficial.

As others have said though, it is less likely that a tech did it on purpose and more likely they accidentally left it on their tool cart or something.

Good point. It's also likely that ZAuto would have records of it being unmarried and who did it.

I was referring to parking and being away. If needing to drive without the tazer, yes the extension cable will be the trick to make a connection back to the gateway easy and quick.

My new tazer program will reset a married tazer. It has a button to click on. No need to send to tazer to reset.

I agree that is probably what happened, but I am irritated, so I will say it was kidnapped to make me feel victimized, which in turn lets me feel justified in my pisstivity. It is a positive feedback loop.

That is a big problem if true.

The whole idea about contacting them about this was so you could prove ownership of the Tazer in order to get it unmarried from a previous vehicle.

If anyone can unmarry any tazerJL with the ZPU program, that’s a big issue indeed.

Have you actually tried unmarrying that way? I ask because perhaps after you click on that said button, it then asks for the unmarry key, which can only be taken from the EVIC of the Jeep it’s currently married to, so only the owner can do it, or at least someone with access to the Jeep and the keys.

You leave the Tazer plugged in because that keeps the ESS button in whatever state you last left it in. A minor thing, perhaps, but it’s nice not to have to turn it off every time you start the vehicle.

When he posted that he could do that, my initial thought was, I bet this mother F'er stole my shit to test out his software, and now he is taunting me! Seriously though, this is a problem. I am not sure what use case there is for this to happen outside of nefarious shit.

Agreed. It's a bit unexpected to think someone wouldn't notice that their Jeep started that horrid 3-honk crap again. Or that they didn't notice that their garage door opener changed behavior. Or that turn assist stopped working. Or a slew of other changes just weren't noticed.

From the author's notes... it is for new owners of used Tazers that were sold by 3rd party services, like ebay. The unmarry reset was given as a quick fix. I think they were getting too many requests and have limited time for other duties in covering a broad range of support.

That three-horn honk was one of the reasons I was going to upgrade. Maybe I could have done it all along, but if so, it went over my head. My rear camera coming on when I use my turn signals still works, and my transmission still shifts properly with my 4:56 gears, etc etc... I don't think I used any of the live functions, but who knows.
