After a full day of driving my new Wrangler offroad, breaking things in, I wanted to have the engine oil/filter changed.

The dealer uses Full Synthetic 0W-20 Pennzoil Engine Oil, while I provided an Amsoil oil filter for the best filtration.

I also took some pictures of the undercarriage while it was up in the air.

The car wash I go to washes the undercarriage, so it still looks new.

Also, as you can see, my Front Axle has no FAD. 👍
While it may affect gas mileage, it does shift in and out of 4WD a whole lot easier w/o the FAD.
MY 2018 JL had it, and it was a pain to shift into and out of 4WD.

These undercarriage images are hard to come by. Thanks. Can you or anyone annotate any of the images to point out where the two catalytic converters are?

In the 1st and 5th pictures, they show one up by the right side of the engine, while the other one is up near the transfer case in the 8th, 11th, and 12th photos, if that helps any.

If I'm seeing them right, one looks easy for a thief to get at, and the other one, less so.

Both cats are bolted to the heads, you can see them in the first picture. One to the left and right of the engine. That one you see further down by the transfer case is just a resonator, it isn't a cat. No one is stealing these.

That's great. I wonder if the locations are also hard to reach on the 392's.

What is a FAD?

Also, as you can see, my Front Axle has no FAD. 👍
While it may affect gas mileage, it does shift in and out of 4WD a whole lot easier w/o the FAD.

Funny you should say that. Turns out, thieves are really, really stupid.

OP, if you’re talking about how hard it was to pull the lever on your other JL, the FAD has nothing to do with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that first picture of the front axle sure looks like it has a FAD on it.
That's the rectangular box on the passenger side, with writing stamped on it.

it’s the same housing with the same axle shafts with all of the same structural weakness, but none of the moving parts are installed.

I would love to see one of these cut open for a cross section view..they absolutely give me the opposite of the warm and fuzzies. look like a prime location for a failure....
