I installed a rear diff skid the other day from Next Venture Motorsports. Its a nice long slope design to help slide over any potential rocks instead of getting hung up. I don't see a cutout for the oil change though and it was a PITA to get on. Im not thrilled that the spacer and bolts aren't painted. Likely going to pull them off soon as I spot rust and get that sorted out.

Does spray-on bedliner have a grit to it? Wondering while it would add some thickness (protection), would it also increase the friction coefficient (and less likely to skid)?

Materials engineers/nerds please opine.

it has a light sand texture. but i run it as a thin layer so it scratches off easy if need be. I have to say i havent had any issues yet with being stuck because of the paint :D I even painted my fenders with it. Looks good and its easy to touch up if needed

The one I used for a project, I think it was rustoleum brand, was more slick even though it does have a texture.
The matte rustoleum rust reformer paint I’ve used on my rock sliders feels like it “sticks” more?‍♂

I have a few rustoleum cans that I've used on unpainted hardware and touch ups. The finish of the can on the left matches the steel bumper texture and color identically. I haven't even used the right can yet. I'll consider them for the diff skid hardware, but they really need to be sanded down. If they don't show rust before hand, I'll just do it properly when I remove the skid for a diff oil change in 4k miles.

There’s a nice guy named Kevin from the gladiator forums who came with us who would likely go with you. He saw me go through the squeeze, kindly shook my hand and said this isn’t for me, I’m not ready for this yet. Then he turned around and left.

I get the fact that nobody wants to spend 50k plus on a rig and tear it up. But at the same time a hundred dollar fender was well worth the trip for me.
And here I am, lol
I just signed up here and have been reading this thread.
As @Mx5red said about being set up, I was looking at videos when I got home and did notice the rocks built up on that right side by the drop that weren't there when we were.
Next time I'll be ready and won't be worried about getting some fender scrapes. Mine aren't painted so it's not as visual.

Glad to see you made it Kevin. You’ll find this site is a bit more active as far as trips go. As it’s been said before, everything north of the b pillar is the same.

I can definitely see where we went wrong, but by the time the last person came through they didn’t acquire as much damage as I did. The more we did, the better the line was. I feel like just from watching others from the front that I could have made it with much less damage, but we all knew what we were getting ourselves into when we took that trip. I think we all could have done a little better, myself included. You have to ride that left wall as long as possible, and shimmy into the groove last minute to avoid the most damage. Or just take a bone stock TJ through there ?

I’m not real familiar with wrangler models but if that 2 door is a TJ, yes, he did make it interesting. I usually do a better job of studying the lines but that day I just didn’t have my head into it deep enough. I think I did figure out that you have to line up parallel with the right wall and line your left wheel with that groove and stay as straight as possible going through. That’s a great challenge and I want to get back out there before too long. I went out and looked at my undercarriage a little but ago and think a diff skid would be a good idea.

Yeah the gold 2 door was my buddy. Bone stock 04 non rubicon with street tires. That Jeep did amazing out there. A couple times I had to sit on his bumper to keep the corner down, but that’s kind of par for the course when it comes to such a short wheelbase. Us longer 4 door guys faired much better with the exception of the squeeze, he definitely made us look silly there lol

Hey buddy… some leaked video footage from your trip through the squeeze just came out. It’s NSFW though… not safe for wife! ?

I’ll upload it here as soon as I can ??
