Just got a call back from Jeep Care about my case and they basically told me this is the first case that has been reported and there is nothing they can do because this is how the vehicle was made... what a joke. They said to take it up with the dealership regarding remedy for which there is none, or send a letter directly to 1000 Chrysler Dr, Auburn Hills, MI, 48326. I will be doing that but such a joke..
What a bummer. I think what you're describing is what my Jeep does - I've only had it now for a handful of days. When driving, all windows up, hard top on, between 60 and 65 miles per hour I randomly get a resonance that kind of sounds/feels like bass from the stereo - but it's definitely some kind of harmonic resonating deep sound. I thought it was maybe the tires or the driveline, but I honestly have no idea.

As of right now, I can't pinpoint what is causing it. I can feel it in my steering wheel/floorboard, though. :(

I think its the tires. I let some pressure out from mine and put some miles on em and it went away. Go to 34 psi.

Anyone else experiencing this? Picked up vehicle (hard top) last night and noticed it this morning.

I'm the guy who originally posted this thread. Either my noise went away on its own, or I got used to it. I'm guessing it went away because even when I try to detect it now, I can't.

Glad to hear that and thank you for the post!

Must be something that I need to get used to.

Some of you need to trade back to your BMW. This is the most offroad capable factory vehicle in the world. Be thankful you do not have to yell in order for passengers to hear you!

I think I just figured this buffeting out, but want a couple people to give it a try first. I can re-create the buffeting by closing all the doors and windows and sitting in the backseat and pounding up on the inside of the hard top (inside my garage). I could hear a fluttering near the tailgate so I checked out the vents in tailgate. There are thin rubber flaps on the tailgate vents (behind the spare tire) that flutter when pounding from the inside. I had my wife pound the hardtop while I watched the rubber flaps move with each of her hits to the hard top. I pulled the rubber flaps off and the buffeting is gone. If someone else can give this a try to confirm that would be great. I believe the rubber flaps in the tailgate vent are there to keep dust out, but they must be sealing the air inside the Jeep cabin to well, causing the overpressure/buffeting only when all the doors and windows are closed.

I asked the wife to go pound in the Jeep with me, she said "we are to old for that, pervert". Sorry for my failure to assist.

If you can recreate the issue by manipulating the hardtop, why not use a suggestion from this forum to put a towel or foam between the sound bar and hardtop which would prevent the hardtop from moving?

As an aside, I was bothered by the buffeting on my test drives of various Wranglers; when I picked up my ordered JLUR I installed a bug deflector (stone guard) and didn’t have buffeting. Not sure if my Wrangler never had the problem to begin with or if the bug shield changed the airflow over the hardtop to prevent the buffeting.

Hello everybody,
So I noticed this sound you all speak of which led me to this thread. My jl is a new ā€˜18 and noticed it sense the beginning. I have a soft top and it’s not coming from that, sometimes it sounds like it could be the tires(which isn’t it but combined with it was a similar sound), maybe it was the engine, or the exhaust. It was at low rpms around 1500. Well did away with the stock muffler and ended up putting a dynomax axle back exhaust on. I got it because I wanted to shift off of sound rather than looking at the rpm’s and also had a hunch the source of the sound was the stock muffler. Well the rumble sound is gone.... Not masked by the new sound... it’s simply gone. I regularly am in that rpm range now and it’s not there. Just wanted to give my two cents...

yeah, i heard it on the highway a couple of times...either i sped up or slowed down a touch, that solved the issue...or we opened the back window a touch...no biggie, it happens to other cars/ trucks also.....
