The Jeep Nav is worthless off road. Most of the time it just show the Jeep icon on a blank background. It's ok in town. I use a Garmin Tread for off road.
I'm thinking / hoping that OnX in the 2024s will help off road.

Same.
I was hoping someone would have tried it and said something by now.

that’s not necessarily the case on a 24 like the OP has, there’s a new trails app for off-road nav on the Rubicon and iirc the Willys too.

the 24+ JLU’s are a different Nav experience than the 18-23’s across the board

When I plan a route like that with Google Maps it asks me if I want to download that area ahead of time. But yeah, a built-in Nav system that's a few years out of date is better than nothing in those scenarios. We, of course, have old-fashioned paper maps as the ultimate backup.
Same, when I remember to download, haha. I've been using OnX Offroad as well but same story, gotta remember to download the map.

Have you ever tried downloading the google or ios map for the entire state? I do not know if the functionality is such that you can find gas stations, restaurants etc, or if it only downloads streets and addresses.
I have not but that's a good idea.

I went and looked it up, about what you get with downloaded maps, and you get pretty much everything you would get if you had service in the area. There is also a setting, at least in android's google maps app, that let's you select automatic updates for your downloaded maps.

Under your account, you select "offline maps">select your own map> you get a window where you just zoom and pan the map to the area you want and select download, it's pretty simple.

Back at offline maps, there is gear icon upper right that lets you select "auto update offline maps" and another one for "auto-download recommended maps". I did notice that I already had downloaded maps for home and work.

Excellent, thanks for the info! I'm pretty sure I read on the internet, Lewis and Clark used Google Maps ??

Didn't realize till I got my new 2024 Rubicon home that it didn't have the Nav icon installed . Of course it has Apple car play but I was surprised navigation was not also loaded up. I think it would be nice to have. I contacted my salesman and he gave me some song and dance how it's install at factory and would cost a couple thousand dollars for upgrade. One would think it would just be a software download ? The Jeep has a giant info center, there not going to replace it. Seems like they should be able to plug in and install the program.. Has anyone delt with this before ?
Not all have this. it is a option. And yes it will cost a bunch to add it. It is a2000 option. Lots of people use there phone. But I still like the factory nav. Use it often. But yes not all wranglers come with it

I think you have to add the GPS antenna besides the software.

A Rubi doesn't come with Nav? I mean either you have the entire tech package for a '24 or you don't.

I will say this when I was having my battery problems, it would load the Uconnect system, but the Offroad pages wouldn't load. It would take a few seconds for the icon to pop up. I was using that offroad app screen to monitor my 12V battery voltage. It wasn't until later that I realized I could see it on the dash.

Isn't the GPS antenna on top of the sound bar? I see a black piece of equipment there, it is either the GPS antenna or the Sirius antenna or both.

What does your build sheet say? I mean it would have it on there for sure. Just seems odd that a 24 Rubi doesn't have Nav, but I guess if you didn't order the package then it won't be on there.

I had it on my 2018 jlur and the 2020 gladiator. On the jlur it worked where my CarPlay didn’t and I ended up following a trail on it. The trail got really rough and it turned out to be a dry stream bed that led up to chilcote lake in the sierras. It was an ADVENTURE to be sure now reading this thread I wonder if it wasn’t a trail at all. But there were at least one other set of tracks there
I ordered the rubicon. X. Pretty sure that has the technology package so hoping it will have nav. ?
I have found it to be pretty good on the Uconnect. 4 especially when there is no cell service However I am thinking I will be adding gaia and onX Can you load those kind of apps directly to the uconnect 5 or will I have to have a tablet with gps?

I hate CarPlay. I’m one of the few that would rather use the built in nav. Phone gets pretty hot if going over an hour. It also won’t let me play music from flash drive when phone is plugged in.

My issue with the built in Nav is it is way out of date. They don’t ship Jeeps or update them before you buy them at the dealer. I have a 22 and it still has all the old exits in New England. These are changes that were from 3 and 5 years ago for i90 and routes/roads in Maine have been changed. It doesn’t even say old exit 4 etc. Just all the old routes. Is dangerous, some places have changed to one ways or no outlets and the Nav has no issue directing you into areas that are no longer there or completely changed. Then there’s no way to Nav out since it’s all really old. So I have to use Google maps to get out of there.

So essentially I’m running a map pack from 2018/2019 and am expected to have to pay to update it when I bought my vehicle a few months ago. Is insane

I’ve never had a new vehicle that you had to pay for the most UTD maps when you purchased it.
CarPlay is wireless, so your phone shouldn’t be getting hot while in use. I’ve had BMW, Porsche, & RST Silverado I’ve had to pay for upgrade for Nav in all of them, its fairly common

All you need is to connect your phone. The Google /Apple / Gaia / OnX maps show up on the Jeep's screen.

There seems to be a tiny number of people here that use the built-in Nav. It's pretty damn bad IMHO and requires $$$ to get updated maps.

Consider using Android Auto or CarPlay instead. Either is significantly better and gets updated quickly / dynamically for free.
The crappy part about this is if you want the upgraded Alpine system you have to pay $2295 for the tech package with the Navi. I never use my factory navi in my car. I always use google play. Yet if you got the WIllys. The tech package is $1295 and it only comes with the alpine system and 240 amp alternator
