Wrenches for Clayton jam nuts?

Well, shit.... My Motobilt wrenches showed up this afternoon and they don't fit any of the jam nuts (I checked every arm and trackbar to make sure it wasn't one out of tolerance). That was $90 wasted (they'll go in my toolbox, so one day maybe it won't be a waste)...

@Clayton Off Road calls for either 1-7/16 or 1-13/16 (also spec'd as 46mm) and I got both in the Motobilt set, but they're both too small to fit over the nuts. I did a quick Google search for tolerances and here's what I found:

1-7/16" Wrench should measure 1.446-1.457", mine measures 1.452".
1-7/16" Nut should measure 1.438" max, mine measures ~1.475".

1-13/16" Wrench should measure 1.822-1.835", mine measures 1.822".
1-13/16" Nut should measure 1.813" max, mine measures ~1.830".

Here's where I got the specs: Wrench/Nut specs. I compared the actual nut measurements to this and it would be a very sloppy fit to move up to the next size (1-1/2" or 1-7/8"), especially on the larger nuts.

Lowe's didn't have any wrenches large enough to fit both nuts, so it looks like I'll have to check Home Depot or NAPA if I don't feel like the Harbor Freight wrenches are strong enough. I could also use a pipe wrench, but I don't want to risk chewing up the nuts with the serrated teeth.

Yeah, I got a 15" one from HF but am trying to find a better quality version. Headed to visit my parents this evening, I may have to go raid my dad's shop and see what he has around.

Icon products at HF are excellent. I did not, however, see the sizes you need.

Knipex makes incredible tools. A big “pliers wrench” might do well for this application.

Be careful with those HF crescent wrenches. They’re got garbage and you’ll round you’re nuts off if you’re not careful, and who wants rounded nuts?

Uh... me for one. I would think squared off nuts would be quite uncomfortable.

Those look really nice and I'm familiar with the Knipex brand, but I don't think getting anywhere near 250 ft/lbs is going to happen with them. I can't find any torque specs, but I'd be very surprised if they could really even handle 100 ft/lb.

Put the adjustable wrench on a block and torque the shit out of it with the other. You only need small turn to get it to catch on the block and hold it.
Hell i’ve used a floor Jack to to hold one while I hung on the other. And yeah 250lbs plus on most of those

Thanks, those look like nice sets. Unfortunately my only Northern tool is 45 minutes away, but if push comes to shove I can make a run down there. Any chance you could check the opening of the 1-7/16" and 1-13/16" wrenches with a set of calipers and post up the measurements?

I'm thinking the nuts must be 38mm and 47mm based on the SAE-metric conversion of the measurements I took, unless the Motobilt wrenches were just abnormally tight tolerances but that doesn't seem right based on research.
