Hey Everyone,

I’ve been sort of waffling between ordering an ‘18 JLU now or waiting for the ‘19 model year but I’m leaning towards the ‘18 now (Travis@TriCityJeep). I’ve pretty much got my order nailed down but I’m on the fence with the active safety group.

I’ve never had a vehicle with the backup sensors and blind spot monitoring so on one hand I don’t know why I would start now but I do have small kids and use a parking deck at work where backing out can be challenging at times. So why not go with one more layer of protection, plus the LED tail lights are pretty nice...

Has anyone regretted getting it? I’ve heard some complaints about AutoPark, but I’m curious what people’s real world experience with the safety package has been. Is it worth it?

Thanks!

I’ve had 2 jeeps without it, so understand that no one “needs” this option.

That said- I like it. It has its annoyances, but I find it very helpful. My wife’s CRV has it and I used to tell her it was for lazy driving. But then I got it and I find that I am more aware. The display tells you where the dangers are (on the dash) and Iike that.

It does have a few issues. For example, it freaks out when I leave the garage. It senses the side of the door and thinks I’m just going to jerk the wheel or something. But once out, it settles.

I think the selling point is with the doors off. It sees what I don’t see with the side mirrors off (or when you put some wimpy ones on). That’s a plus.

So if you have He money- do it. I’m glad I did.

Good point about when the doors are off. I didn’t realize that the dash has alerts too. I thought it was just the side mirrors for blind spot alerts!

The problem arises when you have one vehicle that has it and then one that doesn't, because you start to rely on it (at least the backup sensors) and forget it's not there on the other vehicle, making it more likely to back in to something. It wasn't an option in the GT350 and I was always very conscious not to expect warnings when backing up.

This is my first vehicle with the blind spot warning and backup anything (camera/warning), and I'm glad I got it. Too many people on the road just love to nest in my blind spot. I've also started watching other people's mirrors as I pass them to see if they have blind spot detection as well - if they don't I gun it and get out of there ASAP. If they do, I know that can risk the extra 2-3 seconds and save a teaspoon of gas :)

I currently have my doors off the Jeep right now, and I get a message on the dash that says blind spot monitoring temporarily unavailable. But, with the doors off, you have way more visibility. But, as far as the active safety group, this is my first vehicle with it, my wife has had one with it, but I especially like the camera, just gives that little extra sense of security, especially with kids around.

It’s my first vehicle with the safety package and I’m glad I went with it. Not a necessity but it’s handy and why not, if it’s in your budget.

No, especially if you plan on larger tires and different bumpers, then it will be nothing more than a headache to deal with. People are already having issues with those stupid sensors and larger tires constantly triggering the system.

I got it to “future proof” my Jeep. Cross path detection is pretty neat came in handy once already pulling out of parking at work, while I did see the car coming it was nice to see the system detect and alert me of incoming traffic.

How does auto park work exactly? I thought this was a myth lol

Yes, is worth it. Quirks? None. It's just doing its job. Makes backing up a breeze, especially in tight parking lots. Blind spot warning is really nice too. Like another poster said, I thought it was for lazy driving as well, but it really does make you more aware, especially if you have little ones who like to leave things like bicycles or toys laying in the driveway. My kiddos are grown but my wife likes to leave her gardening tools laying around in the garage. I backup to park in my garage and I can always see if I'm about to run over anything she left laying on the floor. I personally won't buy another vehicle without it. Another really neat feature is that you are able to view the rear backup camera at any time....parked or moving forward for a few seconds.

I am very pleased with the blind spot check. After having it, I would never get it without it. It even worked on the trail as a dirt bikes passed me on the left and right.

I bought mine off the dealer inventory. If I'd had ordered one I would have opted out.

The reason.

I used to always run a radar detector. The blindspot monitor system uses radar so my detector would go nuts and not be effect. I miss my radar detector. :(
