I felt safer in my JL when snowing/raining a year back than today.. what changed?

I had rear LSD, and buy just flicking to 4Hi i felt sure footed back then. Even on the questionable Goodyear adventure kevlar AT

I've regeared and now on dual lockers. Although it helps on the trail in some specific situations, I miss the LSD in 4hi

If they ever make a rear locking diff that doubles as torsion LSD when unlocked.. I'll be standing first in line to install one
Yeah after a long time of thinking front and rear lockers make for the ultimate off-roader, now that I finally have a rubi, I wish I had lsd’s

Felt the same way in my 12 Rubicon, feel much more confident in my 23 Willys with LSD ?

Yeah, he even throws up the quote fingers when he says it's sorta like an awd system. It's still an open front diff, so power will go to the wheel with less resistance.

I'm watching on a smaller phone screen, but it looks like the front wheels are spinning faster in both auto and part time 4hi. He says they're spinning at the same rate, but the front looks quicker. I previously thought the rear driveshaft was gear driven and the front was engaged through a clutch pack, but that demo makes it look like both driveshafts are clutch driven, which is why the front is outrunning the rear.

Eta. I just watched again on the big screen, and yes, the front is definitely spinning faster in part time 4hi. The rear just seems to catch up a bit quicker than in auto.
You still have open diffs. So if that front left tire has less traction than the front right it will spin faster.

During snowpocalypse 2020 in Texas my neighbor couldn’t get out of his driveway. The streets throughout our whole neighborhood were covered in snow and ice. My neighbor’s elderly mother needed her meds so I drove him to the pharmacy and to her house in my jeep so I guess you could say it saved her ass.

Hell, where do I even start!

Just recently, my dad and I are driving back from the Christmas holiday. We drove 300 miles to the interior of British Columbia to spend Christmas with my sister-in-law’s side of the family. On the way there we encountered sleet and gobs of snow. On the way back, though, we encountered lots of slush and standing water.

At one point we are following a semi truck through a construction zone. We are doing 35-40 MPH. When the construction zone ends, the truck in front veers rapidly to the left. Next thing I know the entire front of my Jeep gets submerged in slushy water. We dove straight into the mother of all puddles! Brown water gushes over the hood, up the windshield and over the top. I can’t see where I am going. All I can do is lift my foot off the throttle, let the vehicle slow down, hold on to the steering wheel...and pray that the engine doesn’t stall.

My dad’s 92, we are at 4,500 feet in elevation, it is 35 degrees outside, and it is both snowing and raining.

Fortunately the engine didn’t skip a beat. Once the water clears off the top of my hood and the windshield we are able to continue on home. We were startled but safe.

Had I been in a regular car, chances are we would have ended stranded on the side of the road.
I drove to Canada during the frozen rain last Christmas too, didn't make to our destination in Alberta due to highway closure but my Jeep took us home safe, also I think I saw your jeep at the border crossing line one time (not a lot of red wrangler with white wheels)

What color is your 4Xe? Just in case I see it roaming around WA or BC...

How can they make you leave? I can see srongly advising, but forcing you to leave your own property?
CA law says they cannot require you to evacuate. But, if you leave your own property, you can be removed/required to leave the area and blocked from returning. Minors can be removed to protective custody. If a LEO believes someone may not be competent, they can remove them for their own protection (Sounds iffy).

So living in CA, the last few days have been kind of crazy weather wise. My house got evacuated due to flooding yesterday. As a new Wrangler owner I was super grateful when my wife called and said the fire department was there and she had to get out. Thanks to my Wrangler I was able to get to her and get her and the dogs out without any issues. The streets around my house had at least 2 feet of water on them. So I want to hear some stories as too how your Wrangler has saved your but.

Does it count if my butt was the reason I needed saving? ?

In 2018 we went to Moab. Probably shouldn't have. We ran Long Canyon. You start by going down a switch back. The first 2 legs were fine. Plenty of traction. There is a flat area where 2 vehicles can fit then a bigger descent. That part was snow covered ice. Zero traction. Jeep slid down hill and turned 90 degrees to driver and thankfully we stopped. Had to winch out without assistance. When I watched the video I hear myself say... "This just got really sketchy." Now I listen to myself. ?

Thankfully, we stopped another couple from making the same mistake on our way out.

Jeep Wrangler JL How has your JL saved your a**? 5

I got sideswipped by a pickup truck this morning on the freeway. My Jeep only got minor damage to the side mirror and the front passenger tire. I think if I had been in just a regular car the side would have been totally smashed up.

I have been in 3 wrecks in the past year. None my fault. Always someone turning into me, sideswiping me, etc. I do not have a single scratch to show for it.

One, lady just broadsided me. My front tire into her passenger door. Dented the door, shattered the window, and messed up the latching mechanism so it wouldn't open. I had a slightly cleaner tire face.

Second was on the interstate. A guy was swerving in and out of lanes. He decides there is room in front of me to cut in. Spoiler alert - there wasn't! He got his rear bumper ripped 90% off. My steel bumper might have had a scuff, but I think it was already there before.

Third was another tire to fender thing, I got a clean tire, they got a new fender.

Yeah my passenger was super impressed and figured after the hit my whole door would be smashed in and when we pulled over it was barely anything.

I'm not sure what happened to the truck that hit me. He got off the freeway and by the time I could circle back he was gone.

The engine was on and in reverse gear in my driveway. Briefly applying the breaks, I opened the door to get out because i forgot to install my cb antenna on a quick release. I didnt realize it was still in gear and the jeep automatically applied the emergency break and held in place. It also chimed on dash and would not go until i closed the door. In my absent mindedness, i had failed to put the jeep back in park and it saved me from getting run over while installing a cb antenna on rear tailgate.

I had some van slam on the breaks in front of me in traffic and there was no way I could have avoided rear ending him in time. The forward collision assistance stopped on a dime.
