Holy shit this is bad advice. Please stop.
Like YOU would know!

How many engines have you ever built or rebuilt, when did you get your FIRST hydraulic lifter car? Been doing this probably longer than you have been alive. You would not know good from bad advice. I have read you comments before, you are not one to be giving advice to anyone...

Carefully check oil filter for any metal shavings, and run an oil analysis. That should give you an pretty good idea if the cams are getting chewed up from rocker arm failure, before you tear into it.

I just changed the oil and filter, with mobile 1 filter and oil SAE 0w-20. No change still hear that ticking/clacking noise when the engine rev’s up. There were no metal shavings or anything that I saw in the oil or on the filter. I feel like I definitely used better stuff than the dealer. Fun fact I got the oil and filter at Autozone yesterday for 40 bucks on sale. I’m not sure what to do next.

I have several 3.6’s apart atour shop right now. Meanwhile, you don’t even know how the engine is put together.

it’s a dual overhead cam engine, the only thing you have to remove is the valve cover, 4 cam caps and the oil control valve.

Your advice here is irrelevant, inaccurate, and generally misleading. Why not stick to something you actually know?

Dual overhead cam and no, never been in the 3.6, so why did you discuss and give advice on the rocker arms??? Personally, I would have never picked that to power Jeep and Jeep maybe answer my prayers in going straight 6 again.

Anyhow, you did not answer my questions and that is what makes you totally irrelevant and misleading. You are a wannabe!

Failure of the rocker arm roller bearings is the #1 cause of engine failure of the 3.6. It’s an incredibly reliable and powerful engine for its size.

I’m not exactly sure how YOUR inexperience with this engine makes ME unable to explain how to fix it.

Go back and READ. I NEVER addressed the 3.6 specifically.

When a rig rolls into the shop, first thing, what do you do? Begin to diagnose the problem and what do you base diagnostics on? Historic occurrences. It was 1974 the fist time I owned a car with hydraulic lifters, till then I was using a gauge to adjust the intake/exhaust solid lifters...BURN your hands on the oil as it splashes out as you had to adjust at full operating temp! It was not till the early 70s that lifters could even go beyond about 4500 rpm before they started floating.

Been at this for almost 60 years and I have seen a LOT, come and go and as a young mech I worked on everything that rolled into the shop. Half the stuff we worked on was built in the 50s. No don't work on the 3.6 not my choice of a Jeep engine.

Here is the first iteration of my Jeep 6. I redesigned the Cold air intake system and wrote a letter to by buddies at Jeep JP Magazine for a shoot-off between my setup and the CAI that was currently being sold to Jeepers. The CAI was the first of many I tested before I came up with my own system. JP mag knew me we had met in Moab a couple of times and they wanted to put my Jeep in an article in the mag, but the Editor told me that I needed to make my Jeep look more I think he said aggressive and up to date. He said you look to stock. And to many fabbed components like my front and rear bumpers and my rocker guards.

JP liked this CAI, but I will tell you for a fact, it was a POOR performer. It was one I bought from a vendor at the Off-Road Expo in Pomona, Ca...

If you're going to do this work, I'd suggest getting a service manual for your JL. Even at inflated prices, it's going to pay for itself.

You’re just ranting in the 3.6L specific forum. This isn’t Facebook.

Back to OP's issue, 1st thing I'd do is take it to a trusted/reputable independent shop to get an unbiased professional opinion. Especially if you have doubts about dealer competency.
