You can't open the tailgate fully with that thing on, can you? It would seem only the swing-away versions would work with our tailgate/spare tires.

I have a 7" 1up hitch extender (with a anti wobble locking hitch pin) on it, so I can actually open up the gate about 1 foot. Not ideal, but I can still grab my gear outta the cargo area. I didn't want to put a drop down hitch on it due to ground clearance issues. If anyone has a better solution please let me know!

Nice Jeeps and bikes guys! If I end up ordering a JLU, my intent is to add a swing away tire carrier like the AEV one, and add a receiver to it so the bikes swing out with the tailgate. But since I'm enamored with the JT I think I'll simply put bikes in the bed.

My current setup is a 2008 WK diesel, with a Yakima Dr. Tray.

The Thule T2 rack you have can drop down, out of the way. I would need to check if it drops enough for a Jeep, buy it gives enough clearance for a lot of vehicle's tailgates.

Here is my rockymounts monorail solo that I use on my TJ or JL. Dont have any pics with it on the JL yet, just on the TJ. Great rack for the price! I ride a Pivot Switchblade and a Pivot LES. Here is my Switchblade (thinking of selling it and getting the new Trail 429 that just came out last week).

It's 7", could have gone with a shorter one, but without having a drop down hitch or swing away the longer extension allows the gate to be opened about 1'. It's not a perfect setup, I'm still working on finding a prefect solution... I'll update once I do.
