Hopefully I don't get thrashed to hard on here. First post and I am sure everyone gets tired of the same stupid question.. I need somewhere I can get some solid information on lifts and tire sizes.. I am reading post after post on multiple forums of people saying just go body lift, others saying body lifts will look stupid or like garbage and they will wear out, do a suspension lift. It gets confusing after a while. To top it off every freaking website has 100 different lifts. Some with shocks, some without, some say change swing arms some say nothing.. Where the hell can I find info that is reliable? This is only my 2nd jeep and the last one I just let the shop pick my set up and they put me with a 4" RC suspension lift and 20" rims with 35" tires.. Loved the look but they are out of business now so I can't just run the new jeep over and I have no clue if what they did was even correct or they just smashed me in the head and took my cash. I do know the speedometer was off by 12 mph when I got it back. But I literally gave them 15k to do all the mods for me. I want to do a lot of it myself this time.

I am not planning on much off road other than driving on the beaches in Florida. No mountains or trails near me in Savannah GA..
So I am think probably the same as last time with maybe 3-4" lift and 20's and 35's

Really just don't want to buy the wrong thing and tear up my Jeep or cause and accident on the road or scrubbing..

So where can I read about exactly what parts I need to order being the kits are all different and I might need to add like coil springs, coil spring spacers, torsion bar keys, taller leaf springs, “Add-A-Leaf” spring supplements, subframe relocators, lift blocks, lift shackles and/or shackle relocators, lift hangers, lifted control arms, suspension links, and coilover shocks

Just my 2 cents given what described your using your jeep for is go back to a Rough Country. They have great inexpensive full kits. You can buy direct from them to install yourself or find another installer. They have many kits available and you can also call them direct with any questions and they will help with any questions.

Just my 2 cents given what described your using your jeep for is go back to a Rough Country. They have great inexpensive full kits. You can buy direct from them to install yourself or find another installer. They have many kits available and you can also call them direct with any questions and they will help with any questions.

Thanks I didn't even think to call them directly and ask which lift with what all parts are needed. Just really trying not to botch this up.

If you're just doing 35s, I would say don't go over a 2.5" lift. You'll easily clear the tires, and you won't change the geometry enough to put too much of a wear and tear on other components (it still will, but nowhere near as bad). This means you could replace/upgrade less and still be ok.

Plus, IMO a 2.5" lift on a JL tends to look similar to a 3.5" or sometimes higher lift on a JK, so you'll likely get the look you want still.

Body lifts are not popular mods on the JL, I wouldn't and I don't think anyone here would particularly recommend seeking one out and going this route.

If it's mostly for the looks, I'd suggest the MOPAR 2" lift and then your 35's. The MOPAR kit is designed for otherwise stock Jeeps, and sells for around 1600 bucks.
Agreed on both. Mopar 2" would likely do it for you. If you still want height after that, you could consider adding a coil spacer... but the higher you go, the more you'll need to replace.

You don't need more than 2-2.5" on a JL to get the same look you had on your JK. The Mopar kit has all you need with the exception of front lower control arms that you can buy separately for pretty cheap. Some will say the Mopar lift won't flex enough or needs additional heavy duty parts, but for your stated use it's perfect. So don't overthink the lift anymore.

20' wheels are heavy and so are 35" tires for 20" wheels. All tires in that size will be load range E. The ride quality will suffer because of all that unsprung weight. Was your JK harsh on rough roads? However, if you liked you old wheels and tires, they will fit well with the Mopar 2" lift.

I'll throw in my .02 and see if I can help.

First, welcome to the forum and nice Jeep!

There is a sub-forum on here dedicated to suspension, steering and chassis that is a wealth of information, but it sounds like you have confused the shit out of yourself already by a lot of reading.

For the basics - I haven't seen "body lifts" in a long time, so everything to fit larger wheels/tires will be suspension related. There are 2 paths you can choose - spacer lift and spring lift.

A spacer lift will simply place (usually 2.5") spacers under your existing springs and may also include a bracket to relocate your stock shocks. This will retain your factory ride, but you will probably want to get the Mopar longer lower control arms to keep caster in range. This is the most economical, and if you will be primarily daily driver what you should probably look at.

The other option is using longer springs to achieve the desired lift. These kits may or may not come with shocks and there are a thousand variations out there to choose from. Your basics here are springs, shocks, lower control arms (same reason for caster). Ride quality can vary greatly depending on spring/shock combination. Dynatrac makes a nice kit with the shocks custom valved to work with the springs.
Whether you go with a spacer lift or spring lift, the other thing to consider is the track bars. A track bar is designed to keep your axles centered (left to right) under the jeep. When you move the axle away from the Jeep by either lift, the axle will shift to one side or the other. Adjustable track bars front and rear will allow you to re-center the axles. There are also kits that have relocation brackets that move the stock track bar and do the same thing.

Hope that helped some and didn't further muddy the water.

Edit: whoever was telling you about shackles, add-a-leaf, or anything to do with leaf springs was fucking with you, and speedo can easily be corrected for larger tires using a Tazer or J-scan to program the ECU.

for your purposes, spacer lift all day every day. ive installed the RC 2.5" spacer lift on a couple JLUs on 35s and theyre still rocking them over 2 years later and enjoying them with NO issues. i would even recommend combining it with rubicon suspension for a really nice looking lift that still drives great and is cheap and needs nothing else.

I'll be the contrarian - get rubicon flares and 34s, done. It will drive great for your usage. You or nearly any shop can do the flares. Any tire shop can set you up with the tires, no worries about the labor side of things.

1 or two inches of lift isn't going to make or break you on the beach.
