I just found out I can still order a 2022 Willys Unlimited but cannot get the dual top group. Its either a soft top or hard top. Given its so close to 2023 orders opening up, I am leaning toward waiting to order. I know the prices will go up…thats happening routinely on everything. But what meaningful changes can we expect in 2023 if any? Thank you

Orderable options are very limited right now with '22 orders about to close, so it would be wise to wait. You're dropping big bucks on a Wrangler, so you should get exactly the one you want.

Some people think almost nothing is happening, but I think there will be some moderate changes. Jeep seems to be pushing the '23's out a little early, so I imagine it's so they can implement some changes.

The big ticket item that has been discussed is making automatic emergency braking standard to prepare for looming regulation changes, and then the speculation around what that change would mean. Some people think it'll cause the manual transmission to be cancelled since they either won't implement it or it'll be ham-fisted in there.

The regulation supposedly isn't being enforced for a few more years, I haven't looked into the details. I'd imagine they could easily hold off implementing it on the manuals since they're a very small percentage of sales. A few years from now when there's a next generation Wrangler then they may drop the manual.

Rumor is no significant changes for 2023. We’ll probably see some colors or minor interior things, but nothing crazy.

I would probably still wait and get one of the first 2023’s rather than one of the last 2022’s.
It doesn’t work like that all of the time. I ordered a 2022 when the order bank opened in 2021 and still have no build date. Waiting for the 2023 order banks to open doesn’t mean your Jeep will be one of the first ones built. Good luck with what ever you choose to do!

I expect more nanny features. My 2019 JLUR came with a backup camera I didn’t need (but don't mind) and “auto-park“, a new and irritating level of government intervention to save me from myself. Maybe the 23s will get an automatic ignition disable until you post a travel plan detailing where you’ll be driving? Or a helmet that will be issued with the jeep with directions that you should wear it all the time — even when not driving? Maybe a nomex fire retardant suit you can don when you fuel the jeep? The possibilities are endless — and they're all expensive.

Oh I know, but earlier order typically makes it more likely. Nothing is guaranteed though. I reserved a Bronco July 15, 2020, waited 611 days, then decided to order a Jeep. Took 48 days.

You never know!

If you really want the duel top group, then it only makes sense to wait as you'll just be kicking yourself in the ass later on if you don't. Patience grasshopper, patience.

Does the dealer you would order from require a non refundable deposit? Would be able to cancel your 2022 and transfer to a 2023 order? If you can get the options you want on a 22 and save $, I’d go that route.

Or, you could order a ‘22 with the hard top and add the soft top later. At this point it still might roll over to being a ‘23.

I ordered a ‘22 last month hoping that it will get built before the end of this tax year.

Any word on the "new" straight six? Or are they waiting for a completed makeover on the JL body style?

I am leaning toward waiting. Its only 2 weeks until the order banks open so I should probably wait. We have 2 cars and can wait on the build. Perhaps the mid cycle refresh will offer some nice updates to the interior…bigger screens, etc.
thanks for all the input.
