I recently ordered a Rubicon and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I'm already plotting how I can overcome the dreaded white roof. What options are there out there other than:
1) Mopar liner
2) Hothead headliner
3) Lizardskin spray on
4) Simply painting the top

The lizard skin seems overpriced and I'm having a hard time believing it would be worth it, but looks good.
The hothead seems like it might help, but is pricey and doesn't get rid of all the white (the white really bugs me).

Has anyone simply spray painted (kind of seems like a bad idea) or plasti-dipped the hardtop interior? If so, how did that turn out?

Thx.

There is a post in one of the threads in the last few days where someone did plastidip there’s. Looked like it came out ok. May have been the ‘what did you do to yours today’ thread?

Rubi-Zero and AggieJeepGuy, thanks. This is what I have been thinking about. I think I'm going to have to try that when I get delivery. I have a feeling I will try that, and then maybe get the Hothead liner. Need to do a bit more research about applying the liner after painting. I see it was mentioned in the thread.
Do either of you have a liner on the interior?

I haven’t jumped on the hothead product yet although it looks well made. Just FYI if you do decide to plasti-dip the roof panels you’ll want to put a light coat of clear to prevent any tearing when you’re taking the top off.

That's a good point. I was wondering if there could be issues with the plastidip pealing off. That sounds like a good solution. Thanks.

I hate plastidip, never liked how it looked on large surfaces, the finish, and the longevity of it. Only like it on small things like emblems and such.

There are spray liner dealers (line X, Rhino, etc.) who do the inside of the top for around $500-$600 here in DFW, TX. That's my plan for my top along with Hotheadz, kinda pricey but it's a 50k+ vehicle.

I've spray painted items similar to the size of the inside of the hardtop and I'd much rather just pay a professional with a better product to do it.

I did the Hothead headliner. I love it and it does make a difference in acoustics, wind noise and gives a nice finished look on the inside. There is no more echoey sound when talking inside. Improves the sound system too.

The install was easy. Everything was labeled and the only other thing you need to buy is acetone. Tip- to cut down on the dust when you’re “scruffing” up the top with sandpaper, sand with one hand and hold the shop vac in the other hand. The shop vac sucks up majority of the dust. You install this with the top on.

In the Hotheads thread, somebody spray painted the white part body color and then installed Hotheads. It looks great.

Yup I’ll probably go that route eventually

Thanks for the pics. I think Im going to go the hothead route, and then spray plasti-dip around it after I mask it off. And if I don't like it, I will peal it off. Keep dropping posts here if anyone gives this a shot or comes up with suggestions. Just got to get the Jeep delivered now...
