Lots of Frog Tape. Remove weather seals as possible, or mask over them. Give yourself a full day.I'm considering painting the interior on hardtop black or grey to spruce up the white styrofoam look and sound deaded if possible. Anybody done this and have recommendations? Will you post pics? Thanks!
Looks great! I've always thought the headliners were more for aesthetics and sound deadening/heat blocking was an unproven marketing ploy. I'd love for someone to do an unbiased sound test in a JL to prove results. So you spent $600 on headliners/spray paint/tape and probably 8 hours labor? Was it worth it?Lots of Frog Tape. Also added Hotheads headliner and Sound Assassin strips at the same time. It all makes the top look like it belongs on the Jeep, instead of being an afterthought. The sound quality also dramatically improved for the stereo since it isn't just an echo chamber anymore.
Light sanding, followed by an acetone wipe down.Did you do any surface prep(sanding, wipe down, etc.)?
If I bought another Jeep tomorrow, I would spend this weekend doing this all again.Looks great! IMHO, the $550 on headliners isnt justifiable. I wonder if there is a thinner spray foam type of coating that has some sound deadening properties that you could use in place of the headliners? That would be awesome..
I masked any area where they moved, so no issues.Does the paint wear away where the knobs for freedom top removal are?
